I think RIGHT NOW Zidane is the best but that changes year by year honestly, some managers are consistently good at elevating lower class teams and I will always respect them the most (Klopp, Simeone, Emery etc), just 7/8 years ago I'd have said Mourinho was the best. I didn't even rate Zidane after his first CL but it's hard to ignore 3 in a row. Now will that change next year? If he doesn't win anything next year probably. But as of right now he's the best. I don't think everyone could have won 3 CLs in a row with the current Real Madrid tbh.

There is no 'best manager' at this moment. The only teams that do well are those that are stacked with mostly offensive talent. Hardly the work of the manager showing on the pitch. These same teams also have a rather comical defence which has more to do with a manager's work.

I'd take Simeone over anyone at this point. Could argue that Mourinho is still one of the top ones. The problem is that they also need to find an environment that suits them. Simeone at a club like Man Utd would also struggle. Mourinho's approach is completely alien to Man Utd and Real Madrid, yet he managed to improve both during his time there and be verbally abused at the same time by their fanbase...

I'm fairly certain that the squad Zidane inherited is worth as much as the squad Guardiola built up at Barca. The difference is the same, in that regard.

Regardless, I think Zidane is a good manager. I don't think there's a recognizable favorite for the best manager. There's some that did great domestically and failed in Europe, and vice versa (i.e Real and City). The jury is out, but I still disagree with people coming with a straight forward conclusion.

Guardiola certainly had it "easier". Barca isn't just a collection of players, it's well, a philosophy, so La Massia produces talent that is moulded to play a certain style and they acquire players that are suited to that particular style. Guardiola was part of that system, he knew it from inside-out. It's a never changing thing. Zidane stepped in as an ordinary coach, inheriting a group of players.

Real's "problem" is that they really have no other philosophy except for "the best collection of players that are available right now". So yeah, that's why I think it's harder to do anything with Real, even if they have top talent. Although I must admit that they only got results when they normalised their strategy a bit, built a core and actually got players that aren't just names but actually could work in a cohesive team.

Of course, all of that nonsense is an exaggeration, but there's certainly a grain of truth in that.

You keep on telling Guardiola "built" up a squad. That is pure shit.

Mourinho built up a squad. Look at what kind of players he bought and molded a crazy fighter warrior mentality and that's how he won CL.

I tend to agree. Guardiola, Mourinho, and Simeone's sides at their best had a kind of aura about them. They not only won games but dominated them the way their managers wanted. Maybe not so much last season or the previous one, but this season definitely Real have felt like a team that play okay and have a few players step up when they need to. I know people love the cliché that the mark of a great side is one who wins when not playing well, but that also implies that great sides play well for the most part with the occasional blip.

Mourinho to me is at the top, what he has been able to do over the years and his consistency as well. Simeone is a close second where he was able to win a league & EL with the players he has and putting his stamp on the club and side. Ancelloti is also up there because of his long career and titles he has won.

Zidane for me is the best though because of the 3 consecutive CL titles. You can argue that were was luck, the money, the players, etc but at the end of the day he won 3 straight and thats all that matters. He also won the Liga which often gets overlooked. I like his demeanor as well from what i have seen of him, not someone who is animated or gives excuses or complaints. I think he will take a year off and next stop will prob be Juventus.
