It's generally better to focus on performance trends rather than performance in one particular game, but either way things don't at all look encouraging. Eleven games played and just two good performances against Atalanta and Man City along with a general lethargy about the team which does not look too far removed from how they played after the title was won last season.

I'm really hoping that it's more a case of players not really finding their motivation again, plus some obvious tail-offs in form by the older players like Darmian, Acerbi and Miki rather than general fatigue at this early stage of the season. If they are tired in October then prospects for the season look poor.

Only Di Marco looks a better player this season and he has been by some distance the key man this campaign. Sommer, Bisseck and Thuram seem to be broadly at the same level as last term, but everyone else seems to have dropped. I'm especially disappointed with Pavard who is not becoming the transformative player we thought he might be. Zielinski is a frustration too as he seems very fragile and, apart from a good game in Manchester, has played all his decent football this season in national team colours.

Not picking on him especially for his feeble penalty, but Arnautovic really does look absolutely done. He just can't get round the pitch and the good close control he did used to have seems to have been lost too. He's even eased off the ball rather too easily for a man of his physique. I'd sooner see Correa play ahead of him on the basis that the Argentinian can at least still run.

I'm finding Taremi a puzzling player, one capable of good pressing, hard-running, some lovely link up play but seemingly incapable of scoring goals as he never finds himself in a position to even take a shot.

At the end of the market I was bemoaning starting the season with just 6 midfielders rather than the 7 of last year. Some people told me that didn't matter because we had players who were not remotely injury prone, but this overlooked the sheer good fortune we had in that department with the main trio pretty much available all season. That was never likely to be repeated and we're suffering as a result now.
Taremi managed to perform at Porto and they played in the Champ League pretty much every year he was there. I think its because he was the main man there but at Inter he's a back up and when he does play he's serving the 9 rather than being the 9.
Personally i've never been convinced by Pavard and always thought he was just a name that gets thrown around.

No manager with any sense is going near that binfire.
whichever manager can finally resolve their problems is probably guaranteed a 15 year, £10m/year net contract there.

Brozo would've declined inevitably, yea, but his playing time would've been limited anyways and he could've replaced Hakan temporarily. Brozo is barely 32 years old now which is not old for a backup role until we find another regista.
In a perfect world where players don't catch feelings about not being in the first team, sure.

I don't see a world where Brozo calmly sits on the bench.

Also WE NEED to look forward and start integrating younger players. Going from Perišić to Dimarco, great. Going from Džeko to Thuram is a big thumbs up, even tho we need Lautaro to become more clutch like Džeko was in front of goal.

Going from Brozo to Hakan/Asllani, not that great since Hakan plays most minutes and is almost as old as Brozo, while Asllani is probably better in a different position.

Dzeko was missing a lot of sitters too

That holds true for any striker. I'm pretty sure we can thank Džeko for reaching the CL final more than Lautaro, Correa or Lukaku :)

Dzeko scored the same amount of goals in the KO rounds as Correa.
Granted it doesn't look that impressive, but I remember Džeko being our best attacker in CL that season.

That's a testimony to our midfield and how bad Lautaro is in the CL.
