No problem with signing those cheap young players like Erkin. You never know when some of them surprise you and turn out to be Cambiasso, Maicon, Julio Cesar or Cruz. If not, not much harm done. Worthes the gamble really.

It's a problem when you pay a big chunk of money (wages, transfer fee or both) for over-priced old fucks who do nothing but deplete your bank account (Vidic and soon Toure).

Erkin is 27.

He looked a bit shit. But then, so did everyone else for Turkey. Hopefully he can play better than this.

No harm done only from a financial standpoint. If he turns out to be utter crap, Nagatomo will evolve from occasional starter to undisputed starter. Telles played less than he should've played last season, but at least he offered some competition for the spot.

Dont like this mentality. Till when do we have to keep on doing this? I mean, starting the season with unclear ideas and a 50-50 LB? Is this the right mentality for a club to get in to the top? I have no problems if he is supposed to be a bench player, but he is being brought to be a starter and yet we have no idea whether he is the right man or not. Telles had a very solid season for a guy who has just played his first season in Serie A and under a messy club, plus he is young, and is way better Nagatomo. Yet we dont want to spend that damn 10m and be done with it for the next 5-6 years. We need continuation, but nah would rather try free agents left and right until a certain Maicon and Roberto Carlos miraculously show up. And if they turn out shit, no worries, Naga will save the day!

i dont know how game deciding you expect him to be on the left back position if the whole team just looks to defend the goal... there are enough other players who looked shitty against teams like spain.
what i want to say is, spain has atleast double as much quality as turkey, so it was to be expected that turkey will mainly try to defend and close the gaps. in that case your either keep them closed and are called a hero at the end of the match, or you lose it and are called total shit.

at inter his role will be different (in the most games); he will not be expected to defend and close gaps, he will be expected to press the opponent on the left flank (more advanced defending on the pitch) and exploit spaces IN ATTACK with crosses.

most common reasoning for this transfer is that there isn't any risk because we can sell him for a decent price in the summer. can we though? market value isn't necessarily dependent on quality, it's dependent on what other teams are willing to pay. i don't think we have leverage on getting a decent transfer fee if erkin flops because of his high wages.

correct me if im wrong but assuming we give a 4 year contract to telles with same wage as last year (1 mill) and transfer fee of 8 mill, it's more or less the same?? without amortization it looks like a difference of 6 mill. that would probably also apply to somebody like masina vs erkin as well. long term cost also looks higher for erkin (not that it means anything for FFP).

they're talking bwout us now transferring out Erkin for the sake of freeing up a non-EU slot.

What they are too stupid to realise is that the transfer window hasnt opened, and we cant LEGALLY have filed any paperwork for him yet. So he hasnt occupied one of our slots! We have signed a contract which will legally be binding even if not submitted yet, but it doesnt mean we have to actually 'register' him in Italy. It'd be douchey, of course, but at the same time we could always loan him to Sass or someone.
