You'd rather use Casadei as starter against Lazio to cover SMS than Gagliardini?
No, but I would bring him from the bench last 15-20min before end when we are comfortably leading against mid bottom table teams, not fkn Gags. Thats how you develop young talent. You bring them on the pitch, not Gags.

I'd love to see how many games we were 'comfortably' leading against a mid/bottom table team with 20 min left to go last season that we'd then throw on a kid?

I wouldnt wanna risk throwing a game, so maybe vs Geona is just about okay (3-0 with 16 min left), not vs Veona, not vs Samp, vs Bologna was fine, not Fiorentina, Atalanta, Sass, Lazio, Juve,

maybe vs Empoli, Udinese, not Milan, Napli, even Venezia was 1-0 until 96 min, Spezia fine, you'd be crazy to risk it vs Roma even at 3-0, Cagliari fine, Salernitana fine,

there's like maybe 6 games a season that fulfill that criteria, 120 minutes of development is a waste of his time - send him out on loan.

Inzaghi is a fkn clown, this Casadei boy would, under Pioli, become next Veratti in 2024.
did Pioli actually develop or give a chance to youngsters when he was here?
I know club policy may be different than he has now in Milan, but still, did he push for some young talant? we had so much coaches in that banter that I dont remember

Jackpot here. When actually checking how young players, I mean really young, green players could be used, we end up to very few games per season.

While at the same time we would need to have the cover for all the rest of the games. Games where even Gagliardini is the option you rather use than the kid.

Point with Casadei not being used in the preseason. It might be he's simply too raw to the midfield, he doesn't have the required basics right. So that Inzaghi doesn't want to throw him in because it would ruin team's game. Preseason matches aren't for developing our kids, they are for preparing the first team to our season. Meaning everyone on the pitch are there for a reason. They need to contribute to team's game. No matter how bad Gagliardini is relatively, he still knows how team plays ie. he knows how to position, how to read the game in different situations because he's been with this team for the whole time (Spalletti, Conte, now Inzaghi).

Inzaghi's job is not to develop our kids. When that is added to his task list, we might see more kids playing at least in preseason matches but until that happens, we won't see it as that doesn't serve his targets.

and tbh, we played kids in pre-season games too - look at Romano, Mira, Biraghi, loads of kids have played in the pre-season over the years.

It's a good chance for some guys to get more exposure to the first team, but I still would much prefer having our kids out on loan where they play 50-75% of the minutes in a season. THATS how you develop people for the first team.

All decent points of view, but c'mon it is preseason. Getting "the starters" match fit and getting their chemistry and timing down is essential, but the matches don't count. Throwing the youngsters on for some minutes make sense as well, unless they've shown nothing in the training sessions then send them off on loan asap.

so that "fossil is better than kids" minded is popular, ok, that's why Italy NT didn't advance to WC. It's curse to not using kids, no regeneration, younger-ambitions ones over fossil-expired players who are playing just for high paycheck, retirement home, without ambitions left.

Barella (25)
Jorginho (30)
Verratti (29)

Why you gotta be a party pooper, should have just let them keep their narrative.

The problem with Italy NT isn't the age, it's the lack of a proper no.9

Maurizio Viscidi, Coordinator of the Italian national team setup at various youth team levels, feels that young Inter midfielder Cesare Casadei is a very promising prospect.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Viscidi highlighted the 19-year-old’s attacking movement particularly whilst he also noted that so far he has not received first team opportunities due to a reluctance of Italian coaches to use young players.
Casadei has been the man of the hour, with Premier League giants Chelsea having put forward their interest in the young midfielder in recent days, whilst Arsenal have also been linked with interest.
The 19-year-old is a target for many clubs in Italy, with his name having featured prominently in Bremer talks between Inter and Torino.
The interest in Casadei’s signature is a reflection of his enormous talent, and Viscidi gave his thoughts on what he’s seen while working with the player at various youth levels.
“He has been with us since he was fifteen,” he said of Casadei, “we’ve watched him grow. He’s a modern midfielder, because out of all the youth team midfielders he’s been the one with the greatest aptitude for attacking runs and goalscoring.”
“He attacks the area penalty area better than anyone else we’ve seen, better than Frattesi or Barella,” he continued. “And he’s also strong in the air, something that’s unusual among younger players.”
“Given his ability to enter and give a presence in the area he’s the strongest player currently within the Azzurri’s youth sector,” Viscidi stated.
“He has a strong physqique, and from a biomechanical point of view he is also quite dynamic and can get through a lot of running,” he added.
Of the Premier League interest in Casadei, Viscidi stated that “Chelsea would like to make a big investment so they clearly believe in him, like Ajax with Lucca or PSG with Verratti.”
“It’s a first step towards a Europeanization of Italian academies,” he went on. “These players will grow a lot, so I congratulate the players who go out and play.”
Regarding the fact that so far Casadei has only had opportunities with Inter’s Primavera team and not the senior squad, Viscidi stated that “Our coaches are judged only based on results so they work towards that and don’t take risks on younger players.”
“If the clubs thought like businesses, they would also ask to develop young players,” he added. “The fault lies with clubs that don’t think like businesses.”

To be honest, I have seen 30 seconds of highlights of this kid, nothing to base my opinion on.
However, the only kid recently that was receiving this level of praise and attention was Zaniolo, and it leaves a squeamish feeling in my stomach to think we could make another mistake like that by letting this kid go early/cheap.

Yeah. As hard as it might be to understand, senior players at Inter who've been in the team for years, really knows how the team plays thus they understand the requirements for their position and role. Gagliardini is a player who shouldn't play as starter at Inter ever but he's serviceable backup player. No matter how hard you hate him (I always disliked him more than Vecino for instance).

Player like Casadei doesn't have a chance against Gagliardini. At this point. It could be totally different ball game already next summer if we've sent him on loan and he has played a great season. Though I'd still doubt it.

Spot on!
The problem is how many kids could be developed simultaneously and in what point on the development curve are. We have this year Asllani and Bellanova. They share the same traits: young, have more or less a year of professional football at smaller teams.
I don`t think a team who fight for scudetto or CL places can develop more than 2-3 players simultaneously (even 3 seems too much). If one of these players turn out to be a gem from the beginning maybe 3 is feasable. But if all of them have their struggles (which is normal in their age) 2 players are max who could be developed.
And don`t forget Asllani and Bellanova have proffesional games under their belt. Casadei none. He may run on the field like a headless chicked the first months, until he start to make an impact.

20 m is too much isn't it? Maybe Inter don't want to sell him so ask that much money.

20 mln is not too much for British market. Those EPL teams are wasting millions on some random players, so if we can squeeze them, ok. Otherwise keep him, or send him in some Italin club with buy back option.

Preferably not to an Italian club. This Volendam type of solution sounds much better. For example Oristanio got to play over 2k mins there last season. Now they are Eredivisie. Dutch leagues, Belgium leagues, something like that. Agoume was a bit ahead, so he got to France and played 1.9k mins last season. Italian clubs do not want to develop young loanee players. You need to get them to so low level but competitive that they are good enough for them and the culture is right for them. Italy doesn't have a good culture for young players. Coaches and clubs end up looking only for the victory and the result, nothing else.

This actually seems quite old for a national team. Most national team players retire around 30, no?
