There are lots of former Inter Primavera in serie a squads. They haven't made it to the absolute top but they have made it.

List for last year's serie a squad's: bonucci, zaniolo, santon, biraghi, Duncan, bardi, mbaye, falcineli, zappa, faraoni, bessa, vanheusden, destro, benassi, pinamonti, modolo, salcedo, vergani, belec, obi, bonazzoli and di marco.
In the last 5 years, Inter won 3 primavera scudetto. How many of these players are active in Serie A. Not stars, not at big clubs, but at least rotational players in Serie A. Only Pinamonti and to a lesser extend diMarco.
More than half from your list were in primavera nearly 10 years ago. Others rotten on the bench.
Would except more from our kids to be established in Serie A.

Is it any different to any of the other primavera sides?? As we know italian sides and coaches are very very reluctant to give youth a chance to play.

If you make it to a serie a squad you have made it.
Very few make it that far.
Depends on our definition of made it. Made it to be useful enough to be an Inter first team squad player, no, I dont think any of those except Bonucci and Zaniolo would have 'made it'. Many of them had 'good starts' - look at Benassi as a great example - but faded in recent years when they should be peaking

Who makes such definition to "made it"? No one. If you get to a top division in the country you played in junior level, you have definitely "made it".

Made it to be useful enough to be an Inter first team squad player? That's just ridiculous definition to "made it".

The point I'm trying to make in this thread is about useful production for _our_ first team. Which is the whole point of this discussion - e.g. will Casadei and other products from our youth team be capable of helping out the Inter first team. The *whole* discussion is around, historically, these are some recent examples of Inter youth products who are playing in the Serie A - and my question is, how many of those would actually be useful in our squad? How many of them would we even want, if it wasnt for homegrown rule requirements?

Cuz, in my mind, the only ones on that list that would even be decent rotations at Inter, are basically Bonucci, Zaniolo. Maybe at a stretch Biraghi as well? I dont think, all things being equal, we'd keep Pinamonti in the squad, Faraoni definitely not, Duncan probably not, Benassi no, Destro no...

Helping out like some of our better players? Perhaps not. But the thing is, instead of wasting millions on the likes of Dalbert, Lazaro, Vecino, Gagliardini, Kolarov, Caicedo, Sensi and many others we could give a little chance to some of our better primavera players. Nobody should expect them to make an immediate impact in the first team, but at least it saves us a lot of money which was wasted on the players who had little to no impact for us.

I think in general the mentality in the Italian football needs to change if we want to see more youngsters to succeed in the top tier. These young players need the right environment and encouragement to grow, which is lacking in Italia.

Tbh, what we need to do is focus on giving them better loans and developmental opportunities. The single most important part of any youth development is getting regular first team action asap

After watching several Primavera matches. It's true there are some players who stand out quite a bit in my opinion. Some of them are, Sangalli, Casadei, Franco Carboni and Iliev.

Casadei seems to have a pretty good goal-scoring instinct, but still makes some basic mistakes, such as off the ball or a simple pass. The same thing for Carboni, indeed his dribbles and crosses look pretty good considering Chivu's strategy may indeed tell him to keep crossing until Casadei heads it. Even so, Carboni's movement and awareness of a defensive situation still need a lot of improvement.

We all want them to be on the first team soon however, things of excitement can quickly turn into frowns when he makes mistakes for basic things like simple passes.
Of course, there will be various excuses to ignore this, come on he's still young, there's room for them to make mistakes, and so on.

Didn't mean to burn them out too soon, but the gap between our primavera players and the first team players is still pretty clear.
Maybe many of us are asking why Simone doesn't use Primavera players, maybe many of us forget that he was the coach of Lazio allievi and primavera before going to the first team, he definitely knows the difference in quality between primavera and first-team players.

supposedly scores many goals in primavera, could be worth keeping rather than bargaining chip

There is definitely a gap between adult football and primavera but what I don’t understand is how Italians think players are supposed to make the jump without giving them an opportunity. Like Mancini said this week, he brought Zaniolo into the camp before he made his debut and he looked like a child. Two months later he was a different player. Players can actually improve rapidly when given the opportunity. Unfortunately you don’t really know who has the mentality and drive to succeed at the top level without giving them a chance.

It’s crazy to me that better teams have found ways to get a few players out of there youth setups and meanwhile we have only Dimarco. Surely there is something wrong with our approach.

We cant afford losing to training our Primavera Players. Our target are so high . There is no chance our Primavera kids playing . The only one i remember good is Miangue from De Boer era. Then he become unknown player today.

Dimarco and Pinamonti are good enough for mid table club but never be good enough for Inter.

If the kid want playing, they need go to lower division or bottom table club.

Yes, what Mancini said is true, even though Zaniolo's talent has actually been seen since in our primavera, we opt for instant targets and we all know how it ends. It is true that Italy is currently in dire need of new talent for the national team but as it still takes time and the Growth Decree indirectly affects these young talents, after all, as we all know, local talent today has an extraordinary price and easier and cheaper to sign players from abroad but this is another story.

Let's get back to the main topic, in order to develop well, these young players need to be in the right conditions besides having the right mentality, where they are needed, and can get minutes from a coach who dares to trust them and a team that doesn't put too much pressure on them. Teams struggling to get out of the relegation zone tend to entrust more senior players unless there are no options. Of course, many coaches would be reluctant to play him if his job was at stake.

But it looks like what @.h. said at this time our team has not produced a player like Gavi yet and also as @magnesium said above, we don't have the luxury to train them here.

Trying to develop them in our first team can also be risking points in each game. After all, we all want the team to be at the top.
Still remember the debut of Agoume vs Fiorentina, even though it wasn't his fault but in the end, we threw away three points anyway.
Or we can look at a decade ago, good memories where we tried to play 18-year-old Benassi and Pasa and whoever and ended up 9th in the league.

Big teams that already have a solid first-team base will find it easier to integrate their young players, such as Trent or Foden.
We've actually been better off developing players out on loan who were successful in other teams in the past, like Bastoni and Di Marco.
It must be admitted that at this point we just haven't reached the stage of developing our own talented young players in the club let alone having that high-quality talent.
Let's just hope the talent of this generation can do better.

IMO the primavera coaches need to identify real special talents from average/good ones in their squad. For example:

- this kid really stands out, potentially future star -> we should promote him to train with the first team, if he trains well, give him 15-20 minutes in at least 5-6 matches to see what he can do until deciding we should loan him out or keep in the first team. I believe there are chances to do that, when we are up 2-3 goals and there is 15-20 mins left, why would you bring some grandpas in instead of testing a young kid? There is still risk but it’s acceptable and worth it. Without taking a little risk, we can never promote any kid. Maybe 15-20 minutes is still too short for them to show their talent but at least we give them a chance, and real special talents might only need that much to show that they are ready. Remember Balotelli or Oba, they shone almost immediately.

- this kid is solid but nothing special yet -> find him a club where can play often, serie b, netherland, france… if he grows to be great player, we take him back else try to sell or keep loaning

The coaches work with young players all the time since they were kids, they should see the potential, mentality, etc.
For Zaniolo they definitely misjudge his potential and let him go cheaply without giving him any chance in the first team.

TBH, that's exactly what we do already - its quite regular that some of these kids train with the first team, they've just evidently not shown enough in training to push for a start/minutes

Regarding Zaniolo, it wasn't like Roma started using him right away. There were some injuries which allowed him to be played and the rest is history. Zaniolo would have never done this rise at Inter.

Really? We would be up 3-4 goals and still put in Dzeko or Vidal….. over the youth player called ….

Also Monchi initially wanted to send him on loan or sell him with a buyback clause in order to eliminate Inter's future sale % from a big sale in the future but in the end he stayed at Roma. It's not like they saw him as a future star from the beginning.

Also, as @brehme1989 reminded us recently, Roma's top target was Radu but we had already sent him to Genoa so they turned to Zaniolo.

Regarding Casadei, Tuttosport claim he will join Cagliari on loan as part of the deal for Bellanova.
