It's better to get strong opponents at the Group Stage level and see our real quality. If we go through then we are probably capable of winning CL. If not then we will go to UEFA Europa League and win it :yeay:

I don't think it's like that. Two teams go through in Group Stage and pot 3 and 4 teams aren't up to the standard by any means. So going through doesn't tell anything really.

Pot 4 probably, but teams from Pot 3 sometimes qualify to the next round.

I agree, playing 1 good team in our group will not mean we have a better chance of winning CL if we make it out of the group. For example what if Sevilla gets Pot 1, we are in their group and lose twice to them but still make it out of the group...I don;t know about you but I wouldn't be very confident...

Man we barely made it out when we were Pot 1, we really need to strengthen our squad before next year...

I'm quite sure we will. Even Mourinho said that our current squad is not capable of winning CL.

There is a small chance we might see a true clash of titans:

Internazionale

Agreed we should have been 1st,but even 1 st we could have had to play agaist chelsea for example, hard draw. This year we gonna certainly start the UCL well from the start. Why are we 2nd pot team in CL? and who is 1st pot then?

Here is the seeding for next season's CL.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/seedcl2009.html

In the bottom of the page, there are group stage pots, with this assumption, also said in that page:

Below it is assumed that the seeded teams of the 4th qualifying round qualify for the group stage. If unseeded teams qualify other teams may shift to a higher pot.

So the most probable scenario is that Inter will be in the 2nd pot, because Arsenal and Lyon BOTH most probably won't fail in the qualification round.

And why do Inter have such low points?

Well, UEFA coefficiency points are gathered every season. The coefficieny points are a cumulative total of the past 5 season's points in UEFA competitions. That's why Sevilla for example is in the 1st pot because they've gathered such huge amount of points in UEFA Cup.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2010.html

This is why Inter should also play well in the group stage. On the other hand, now it gives an opportunity to have two big games already in the group stage when startin in pot 2, but on the other hand it gives bigger possibility Inter to finish the group as runner-up and not as winner. Which again means bigger possibility to face a top club already in the 1/16 stage and to get eliminated there. And like I listed in other thread, every round in the cup stage gives you more money + attendace revenues in the home match. So there is also a financial aspect in getting to the next round in CL.

it is unfavourable to be 2nd spot but lets look at it from the positive side that we will test ourselves against a team that might be UCL favourites.
and lets be reasonable, we will play the best teams sooner or later if we have some kind of a chance doing well in this competition we have to play one of these teams.Last year arsenal got the luck of their lives and reached semis despite being second.

I think next year UCL will be much tougher both real madrid and arsenal are strenghtening....

I really dont understand sevilla inclusion in the 1st pot, they were twice uefa winners but thats uefa not UCL.

UEFA doesn't differentiate CL or UEFA cup when it comes to the points. They focus more on advancements and winning the match itself.

Yeah, VLE explained that already. Look at the latter link I provided. There are coefficiency points for every team in UEFA competitions for the past 5 seasons. Inter's coef points going alarmingly down.

But yeah, on a positive side, it's nice to have possibly two big games already in the group stage.

It's also possible that we will finish 3rd and go to UEFA Europa League :)

It will also be tougher because more teams already are in Group Stage since 3 teams from Italy, England and Spain are already there plus some others.

This is what I was saying when we were gonna play Man U, but to be honest I don't see it that way anymore. I don't want anymore tests, I just want a friggin easy ride into the quarter finals at least. Hell we haven't seen a semi-final since 2003. I don't care who we beat or what we prove anymore, just give me one for the history books because this is getting silly.

Absolutely agreed with Ehsan.

Well 05/06 was supposed to be an "easy" draw for us. We would have faced Ajax, Villarreal and Arsenal (Who at the time was struggling) to get to the final but Juan Stupid Veron ruined it.

Early competition = fucks up CL, league and players get tired/injured. There is no good coming out from it other than seeing some comedy interviews such as "I want to meet MU", "my team is not good enough".
