This year Italian teams will do better:

- Thohir will probably push for results as we've missed European competitions last year.
- Udinese biggest European flop ever will not play.
- Torino is back to EL after so long and will want to prove themselves at least past the group stages (and group stage performance is the most important points-wise).

Viola's chances of either making it to the scudetto or dropping out of EL zone are kinda slim (unless they go insane on the transfer market), so a good run on EL might be worth a lot. Either way, they should be ranked somewhere between 2nd and 5th in Serie A this season.

Torino will probably want to at least make it out of the group stages with a decent record.

I see us as the Italian team to put less effort in EL, specially because we are crazy about the CL qualification 30m income.

While clubs like Atletico and Bilbao that took EL seriously, are playing in CL.

Italy are catching up with England and Germany on the UEFA coefficients. Last year, we made some significant gains, and now there is a great opportunity to win that 4th CL spot back in 2 years time. The UEFA co-efficients table which decides the CL spots for the season 2018-19 looks like this:

If Italian clubs can match the German/English clubs in Europe this season and next, then Italy will get the 4th spot back in 2018-19 (most likely at the expense of England). Sampdoria and Lazio did us no favours this season, though Lazio still have a chance to make amends. We need all 5 remaining teams to stay alive till January.

This year provided our best opportunity in Europe to overtake England in the co-efficients. But instead of really taking in this moment, we instead give the worst European performance in 15 years. Regardless of the teams they had to play and how so much bad "luck" affects our game, Serie A just sucks. It is embarassing to support such a shit league that can't even support it's own finances.
