I honestly don't understand the big fuss over Gagliardini's exclusion either. Reading this thread feels like we left Messi out of the CL squad, not Roberto Gagliardini. The guy had a good run partnering Brozovic for a couple of games in the second part of last season, but has been quite inconsistent besides that. Perhaps he has a higher ceiling and is a better overall player than Vecino, but he needs to play regularly to prove it.

In this case, I would much rather prefer that he does it and becomes a regular starter in Serie A, which is by far the most important competition for us this season. Given how unbalanced our squad looks (at least until we find a way to move Radja next to Brozo and play one of our many forwards as AM, or just change system), and the heavy restrictions we have for the CL list, I find it sensible to choose Vecino and Borja instead of Gagliardini. Borja is by no means a world beater and should not be a starter for a team with our ambitions; but like Cafe said last year, he still has usefulness in certain situations and imo is too underrated in this forum.

IMO, Gagliardini needs CONSISTENCY, playing week in and week out in Serie A, and depending on his performances and the context, he might get his shot in Europe in the spring. Until then, he simply isn't that much better than the duo Vecino + Borja to warrant being included in the CL list.

Yes Gagliardini was inconsistent before his partnership with Brozovic, but isn't that true of Brozovic as well? It want long before that that Brozo was booed off by our fans against Bologna so that argument worse for him as well. It qas also more than a couple of games, and even this season, Brozovic finally has a good game once Gagliardini comes in before the 2 worse games with Vecino.

IMO he is much better than Vecino/Borja. I mean, Vecino qas awful the second part of last season and once again the first 2 games of this season. Gagliardini comes in and looks much better immediately as does Brozovic. Borja on the other hand would be useless in the CL imo. The guy can't even do much against slow Serie A teams, I think he would be eaten alive by almost any CL team.

And yet people forgot its also Nainggolan first games play along brozo, and we have all of our core player except Icardi and also we play with normal 4-2-3-1 not some mad experimental tactic from overthink Spallo. Is not long ago during preseason everyone agree Gagliardini is shit player and cant carried the midfield by himself but now funnily people think he is sort of modric or like our only saviour to faced Barca and Spurs. Also during preseason we face atletico with Asamoah x Brozo x Vecino midfield trio and we doing well and ended with cleansheet. Just believe we will be fine without Gagliardini, any player can cover his role as long as we had our core player together, Gagliardini is a filler end of it.

I don't remember everyone agreeing that Gagliardini is shit during pre-season. I remember a lot of people mentioning he didn't have it easy as he was basically playing in midfield with Emmers etc. He was decent in the match against Chelsea, I didn't watch the other ones.

Also, there is more than just one sample of games. Vecino played with Brozovic last season as well and he didn't look good in any of those games either - I know he had some sort of injury but the fact stays that Vecino hasn't really had a good game since November/December of last year. Gagliardini isn't Modric but he's the best fit next to Brozovic by far - definitely better than Vecino. There's a much bigger sample than one game for that. Also, I don't understand how you can say any player can cover Gagliardini's role as long as our core players are together - do you really believe B. Valero could cover that role, as an example? Totally different players.

Put anyone in our squad into xxxx, I dare we would be just fine. Bologna games is the closest we play with that setup with all of our core player only missing Icardi, also Torino first half when we missing nainggolan and we actually doing good until Asamoah injured and replaced by Dalbert which is disaster. That 7 player is irreplaceable as our core player, while other is replaceable and need to compete to cement their position including Gagliardini which isnt yet to become our essential player.

We'll have to disagree. I think if you put Borja next to Brozovic, it would not be nearly as functional as with Gagliardini. I'd also argue that based on what we've seen Politano is essential for us as well. He's much better than Candreva, and I'm not sure how well Lautaro/Keita would do in that position.

Dunno man, that's not looking great. Obviously a worst case scenario though.

Politano's involvement in our game and his delivery doesn't automatically make him a more important player than Icardi. Actually I like Politano very much, he's one of those intelligent players who can play in a few positions and doesn't rely only in his speed, but your statement was way too premature.

Icardi has done wonders in this team. I mean, he's like 25 years old and has scored more than 100 goals with an Inter shirt despite that our team was packed with crap players during these past few years. He has managed to remain our consistent goalscorer and is only getting better. So lets give it some more time until we can bring players like Politano or even Keita in the same sentence as Icardi.

I only said Politano is more important to how we play..... let me try to rephrase, I believe overall, having Politano on the pitch is a lot better than any other bench options we have.

Also, yeah, I'm not going to act like Icardi isn't replaceable, but I'm still happy we have Icardi. BUT FOR HOW WE PLAY, HAVING PERIŠIĆ AND POLITANO ON THE PITCH IS WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY MORE IMPORTANT THAN ICARDI. Without those two even Icardi can't do a lot. There's less crosses into the box than last year, which is the first improvement.

We aren't playing to our full potential yet, but at least our starting wingers aren't bullshitting around compared to most of the last season. Yeah I also mean Perišić here, he had too many 'bad' games.

I won't join the discussion which one is more important. But can people reduce the harsh talk towards former players like this, just to make Icardi sound like a god which carried the team by himself? Each of the "crap" like Guarin, Palacio, Kovacic, Hernanes, Alvarez or Perisic, Candreva recently contributed 5-10 assists per season. i.e. Icardi received spoon-feeding service from all of them to get those impressive "goals" numbers.

You can't just be ungrateful to them as if they were responsible for all the crappy things, while moving all the leftover praise towards one player :palm:

this is the base.
possible variations can be keita/politano, d'ambrosio/vrsaljiko or miranda/de vrij.

then of course there can be changes dictated by injuries, suspensions, form, etc., but the starting XI are pretty much set

Politano is never as important as Icardi, thats crystal clear thing. And I'm a big fan of his game though. Never had a doubt on his quality since I always had an opinion on him as a player who could be useful in any team because of his intelligence, also he seems like one of those players who doesn't rush into things.

I never said Icardi is irreplaceable. The thing is, our team looked so raw without him upfront. Besides, there was some people who said Eder is more important than him because Icardi is very limited and doesn't offer much in our game, meanwhile Eder is better at build-up play and everything, and ect ect. We have seen last game for example, Keita is quite a technical player who is able to beat his opponent and is very quick, but he was nowhere to be seen in many occasions.

Icardi's chemistry with Perisic is fantastic, but let me clear you something; Icardi has done A LOT even before Perisic arrived here.

By your logic, strikers like Nisterloy who do not "contribute" to play other than being amazing at positioning and finishing are less important than other "strikers" like forlan solksjaer. That's just dumb, stop discrediting icardi like his goals are there mostly because of the wingers.

Although I believe Perisic's usefulness goes down if Icardi is absent, it's a two way thing.

There's clearly chemistry developed between Icardi and Perisic over the years in terms of where Perisic places his cross and where Icardi runs to inside the box.

Considering that run basically salvaged our season after it threatened to go off the rails as it traditionally does, I'd think you would realize why people are so concerned.

I'm not going to try further to convince people that Gagliardini > Vecino etc. I'll have to treat it like an opinion about music or food where people's taste vary wildly.

Sometimes people find or perceive something they like about a player. Personally I failed to see it in Kondogbia, but I always maintained that I saw something in Brozovic, even when he was getting booed off the pitch. In the same sense, I believe I see aspects within Gagliardini's game that I like. I see different features in Vecino's game, but I consider Gagliardini's skills to be more useful and better honed. But not everyone else might.

And I don't say that in any kind of condescending way whatsoever. Just a matter of perception. I can't for the fucking life of me see what people like about Vecino, or rather, see how Vecino is 'better' than Gagliardini. But in the same sense, I can't fucking see how people listen to Lil Pump, or eat durian. So I'll leave these fucking Vecino-lovers to eat all the shit-smelling durian and listen to all the G-grade rap as they please. Respectfully, of course.

Again, more important for how we play = Perišić + Politano >> Icardi. Icardi is not the one who is making us PLAY GOOD IN ATTACK.

Again, I did write I'm happy we have Icardi.

What wera says makes perfect sense, but I feel that we have more options now to create chances for Icardi. I do agree that Perisic + Politano is the best we can offer from the current roster though. It's good that we also have Lautaro now (even Keita) instead of Eder, otherwise, yes, this comment would make no sense as no one would really be there to convert any chances our wingers make.

Politano and De Vrij is inched away to join as our core member but still they have long road to prove with consistencely giving good games week in week out or else other player ready to take their place. With 7 core member which they should play if they fit, there isnt much left tbh. Vrsaljko will take right back spot when he is fit. Right wing and brozo partner will be the hottest spot this season.

Such a shame we had to leg Banega go for stupid FFP reasons... He'd be a needed asset in this fucked up list.

I'd also welcome Jovetic back if he was included in a fairytale Joao Mario bid from Monaco. Would feel much more calm. Also a shame that we have no prodigy to play in the middle(or anywhere) from the B list. This is also a reason why I wanted us to get Benassi from Torino last year, he'd be a decent club grown player who can give us solutions.

Still weighing whether the Settlement Agreement fucks us more with the $ side or the disability to add 25 players.
