I would say women's basketball is still more popular state side then women's soccer. They have at least been able to maintain a league for an extended period of time. Women's soccer leagues seem to always be on the verge of folding.
Yeah fair enough, day in, day out women's hoops prob takes the cake.
I was specifically thinking of Women's World Cup and Olympics - in my experience, that's more popular than, for example, NCAAW Final Four or the WNBA Finals.
Anyhow, I'm sure there's a lot of regional variation, as in all things USA. I'm from Miami, where soccer has huge popularity in part due to the South American & Caribbean influences (tho baseball is definitely bigger in Cuba, DR, Puerto Rico, & Venezuela). Somewhere like e.g. Nebraska (random guess), I think soccer might be considered a women's sport.
