Meh. Big deal.

If this deal does anything...it's reinforce that our management team prefer Faraoni >> Santon.

And if you ask me...I agree.

Transfer market: Santon joins Newcastle United

Wednesday, 31 August 2011 13:33:10

MILAN - After achieving success at Nerazzurri youth level and making 53 appearances in competitive matches with the first team (winning 7 trophies), Davide Santon has said goodbye to Inter. The 20-year-old full-back, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Cesena, has signed for Newcastle United, where he will have the chance to pit himself against the best of the Premier League. He worked his way up to the Serie A and the senior Italy team from the Nerazzurri U-17 side. After the deal was tied up this morning the documents were sent to the Lega Serie A.

Everyone at Inter wishes Davide an affectionate farewell and much success in the rest of his career, which began here with us.

Ciao Davide!

Santon will get his chance to flop or pull his shit together. He was doing nothing here lately. He can actually acquire experience and new tactical skills there. Then of course he can haunt us playing for bbilan with supermario :yao:

i don't see why not having a buy-back clause is such a bummer, if he improves and we need a full back there will be nothing stopping us from buying him, and obviously he would prefer inter to other clubs if there was any competition

Why would he? Sure, there's a chance he may have loyalty for this club. There's also a chance he may want to put this club behind him as he clearly had difficulty here.

Damn, what a stupid transfer move!
Santon could be a rossonero in a few years to go :troll:

Good luck IL Bambino!!!!

I could be wrong but last season, whenever he played don't you think he was becoming more and more attack minded??? In his first 6 months under Jose in 08-09, I remember he made surges forward but not consistently or maybe Jose asked him not to and he always preferred attacking more.

Davide Santon.... Gasperini shared Mourinho, Benitez and Leonardo's views... the guy was lost and was probably overrated after his performance against Cristiano Ronaldo in an epic Champions League clash. we had to sell him to Newcastle United.

Mourinho was the one, who actually brought him into the first squad. And he wasn't over-rated, everything just happened too fast for him - first-team, playing with the national team. Then a bad game against Palermo and being frozen-out of the squad, and ultimately - a heavy injury. He had lack of self-confidence which was worsened by lack of confidence from coaches.
Unfortunately, Inter just doesn't know how to grow great talents like this and make them big and deal with their mental problems, and that's a shame.

But the thing that continues to terrifically piss me off is why there are people who think that Nagatomo or Jonathan are better? For god's sake, can anyone please tell me who ever heard of this guys till last year? They both are 5 years older than Santon but are just one second better than him right at the moment.

The fact if we've heard of a player or not does not make him good or bad. Nagatomo has shown to be very good in different levels and in different teams (fantastic WC and Asian Cup with Japan, good with Cesena, good with us), Jonathan is unknown quality I agree.

Mou brought Davide into the team, but if I read what is said about the Palermo game I think he was far too harsh. If there is anything you can really criticise him for is that Mou doesn't have much of a reputation with young talent as he only really seems to know how to work with one type of people in in his own way - youngsters tend to need someone with different approach. When you see the teams he has had, Real Madrid is pretty much the youngest side he has managed, but there too the young one's are already proven from the previous clubs and those young or raw players that need time and care struggle to make an impact no matter how talented they are. Mou is godlike to me and probably many others here, but only blind man would fail to see that he is not so good with nurturing youth and managing problematic players.

Unluckily for Santon, our next two/three coaches were not so good for him either though I think Gasperini might've been able to do it eventually.

Anyway I'll be following him in Newcastle and hope for the best.

Davide Santon reveals why he opted to join Newcastle United rather than Roma and “it was over at Inter.”

The full-back shot to fame under Jose Mourinho when he was promoted from the youth team at the age of 18, but amid injuries and management changes, spent much of the last two years in the stands.

I was very close to joining Roma and they were the only Italian club I’d have accepted with enthusiasm, because the new management gives space to young players,” Santon told the Corriere dello Sport.

Roma enquired after me several times, proposing a loan deal, as did Newcastle. With three days of the transfer session left, the British club made the right proposal to Inter.

I was very glad, as otherwise I risked staying at San Siro and sitting in the stands for the whole season.

It was over at Inter. My adventure had concluded and I would not have had the opportunity to prove myself again.”

:yao:

Prove himself again? How many times is that supposed to happen? How many chances did he want? Get real Davide, you didn't do your best, and if you did, it wasn't better than Faraoni.
