As we have recently discussed here, I will be opening 4 separare topics for rumours, one for each position. Please post the majority of the rumours in these topics. This means that rumours such as Riquelme or Mancini or Makinwa or Alex should be discussed inside. But for persistent rumours like Cassano or Chivu, you can open separate individual topics. Should there be any official transfer, another new topic will be opened to discuss that. In the case that there is already a topic open regarding that particular player, for example, Cassano, then we will discuss in that topic but I will change the topic's title instead of opening a new one.

Also be reminded that non-related transfers should not be discussed in this topics. You can go into the European Leagues forum and discuss them in the appropriate topics.

To be fair, since this is a change, I will conduct a poll at the end of the month to see if you guys like this change or whether you want to go back to the old system or Tim's suggestion of a topic for every rumour.

Thank you very much. :)

Addicks keen on Sorondo
by Graeme Bailey - created on 13 Jun 2005

Charlton are being tipped to land Uruguayan defender Gonzalo Sorondo.

The 25-year-old impressed last season during a season-long loan at Crystal Palace.

Internazionale look unlikely to offer Sorondo a first team return at The Giuseppe Meazza and he could now be set for a return to London.

Inter are ready to let him go on loan for another season, which obviously appeals to The Addicks.

Charlton are now checking on Sorondo's work-permit status before pushing ahead with the move.

Here's what I find stupid... I think we bought him before the start of last season on a 2 year contract, yet we've never used him in a competitive match, have we?

Can somebody tell me why we ever bought Sorondo?

Why don't we consider Yepes of PSG. He is really good in the air aswell.
Juve is looking into Perea from Atletico and so is Real Madrid I did not see how he did this season but we should keep our options open.

Perea is carbon copy of Cordoba, no point of getting him. I saw alot of Atletico this season, and I think he did quite well, his positioning is sometimes a bit off but he makes it up with his incredible speed.

Lousy scouting? I mean, he had a great Copa America for Uruguay a few years ago, but he's never been able to either be consistent or top that chapter of his career.

Shame.

My choices for defenders :

CD : Rio / Samuel / Chivu

CD reserve : Pablo Ibanez / Barzagli / Alex / Luisao

LB : Chiellini / Cole / Evra

seeing that Burdisso will return is January i am not averse to having Materrazi and Mihaj as our 4th and 5th choice central defenders till them as long as they remain on d bench

i will like....................

CB : pablo/milito/gallas/marquez/alex/samuel, i only want a centre-back but one world class, i really don't mind who is, but we need someone strong like those guys.

CD reserve : miha/matrix/gamarra 1 or 2 of them stay.

LB : chivu/del horno, very expensive but we need a left back, favalli is 33 and next year could be his last year.

The only players I would go for are:

CB: Ferdinand, King, Ibanez, Nesta, Ayala
LB: Cole, Chiellini, Parisi, Potenza

Really, if Rio came (never gonna happen) they could just as well give us the scudetto by default ;)

LOL, by default. :p

Well even if we don't get Rio (which probably won't happen anywayz) it would still be nice to get Samuel. Adding him to our backline along with a new LB would really solve things.

Though I must say that I'm truly impressed with whatever Mancini has done to get the guys play better defensively. When we can use a combination of Miha and Materazzi and still win games without conceding goals, there definately is something good being done behind the scenes, cause I don't believe in pure luck.

Even so, that doesn't mean I want for Miha and/or Matrix to stick around for another year. :D

I want EPL defenders, they are the best in the world. Italian and Serie A defenders are overrated b/c of

1) Classy Nesta, Cannavaro, Chivu, previously Samuel despite a bunch of other shit playing in our league
2) Our tactical defensive system where mids give support to the defenders

EPL defenders do it all themselves. That is why england will go further than Italy next WC, and have better defenses than us right now.

Maybe but if I'm not wrong, England always let more goals in than Italy (WCs, ECs, etc.)

Colombia and USA (they suck) manage to score a few easy goals against England a few weeks ago.

My point is I don't think Serie A defenders are overrated, they are good, Nesta is the best for example. BUt what you said about the tactics is true. (not always = Inter)

EPL defenders may have one of the toughest defensive jobs in their league, but I don't believe that just because of this England will do better then Italy. Italy are reknowned for their tough defense, and on the world stage where the game doesn't flow as fast as it does in the EPL, the likes of Nesta, Samuel (for Argentina), and Cannavaro are key.

Also how are you so sure that EPL defenders wouldn't have problems adapting to the Italian game?

And another thing, La Liga defenders also have things tough. Defending the likes of Zidane, Ronaldinho, Riquelme, Joaquin and a host of other stars with flair is no easy job.

To think of it, I believe our 'surprise signing' will be Dede.

1) There haven't been rumours concerning him for ages even when he is a free agent and probably isn't staying at Dortmund. So it seems his destination is already determined.

2) Lately we really haven't been linked with left backs anymore, and we more likely than not are going to get one!

3) Chelsea have forgotten about him. Along with Barca we are the only really big team in a dire need for a good LB. I believe they will be looking for a player from la Liga.

4) If he would have signed for another team, it would have been announced already. We will not be announcing anything before second leg of the Coppa final.

5) We will be using alot of our limited budget to get that world-class centreback, maybe Samuel, we can't afford to buy top LB like del Horno or Cole.

6) Finally, he is brazilian, alot easier for him to adjust than it would be for Cole, Evra or del Horno. Also, he will certainly not be the only brazilian to join us during the summer!

Dede would be a great surprise but I'm not so sure if he's the surprise Mancini is talking about.

I was about to type the exact same thing until I saw this. I think we have the same idea in soccer, my Ayala-buddy :D and I always say Fins are great :star:

And I totally agree about the Dede thing, I find it odd that a free-agent Brazilian isn't making alot of noise.
