Inter and Dumfries agreed on 4m net pa. But Dumfries wants to insert the 20m release clause, which Beppe doesn't like.

We might think if he wants to earn that high salary he shouldn't look elsewhere. I do agree...as half-concentrated player never plays good.

Similar to normal job employment. Employee on his way out wouldn't care shit for company's success. Training less, running half-ass etc. related to attitude issues, especially more so with fatter contract.

Beppe wanna cut that crap clear. If you want an Inter core salary, show long-term commitment to be core. We don't see Dimarco Barella or Lautaro renewing on clause, do we?

Another way to work around this is to offer him a shorter contract.

There is no market for him now, so he will probably extend. Then he can fight for his place in the squad. If he performs properly, he can get another extension or perhaps an offer will come in.

And to reiterate, given the extension of the contract, there's just some few hundred thousands annual value in books. Salary of 4M with Growth Decree means little over 5M gross salary.

So Dumfries will be quite affordable player at just let's say ~5.5M total annual cost starting next summer. Less than what he is currently, despite the pay raise.

The physical attribute is always there. The presence in the box is felt, but the timing is a bit off. Slight improvement from last season though. He's much more decisive in the final third and less hesitant about crossing. Much fewer frustrating back passes which is a good sign.
