He really reminds me of Hakimi's first months at Inter. Making all the wrong decisions. I'm confident he'll turn out good because he has everything the role requires: speed, stamina and discipline. Also, on the ball he showed good things in his first appearances but now he seems very nervous. This will pass with playing time. Lautaro could have put him clear on open goal yesterday as well.

But speed, stamina and discipline are not the only qualities you need for the role.

Starting to think Zappacosta would have been a better option than this guy :yao:

He’s got an engine and okay speed I’ll give him that, but his clumsiness on the ball is so infuriating. I hope he improves as he gets more comfortable with his surroundings.

He still looks a little unpolished, but I really like him. He looks like he only needs to up his game by 10-15% for his output to double. If he controls the ball slightly better, finishes a bit more clinically, makes slightly better decisions and develops slightly better chemistry and positioning, he can still go a long way.

Given the trajectory of his career, he certainly has the mentality to keep improving.

poor guy looks like a baby seal trying to balance on ice
One can't describe him better than this.

Maybe it's time to unchain that greek kid we bought a couple of years ago if Ausilio didn't plusvalenza him yet.

Darmian can’t perform like this because he’s too slow to even get in the end of that pass from Dzeko.
actualy he was in that position a couple of times, he is good at positioning himself, or players just ignore him...

He has already returned to his Greek team on a free from Inter and he doesn't even play in here.

He's no where near Hakimi or even Cancelo but he's also not a total mediocre like Nagatomo or Jonathan. His career at Inter could go either way and only time will tell.

The irony is that Panathinaikos also has 3 right backs now and he's 3rd in hierarchy

His dad ruined his career within 2 months.

I for one, liked Naga more than I like him :D

That being said, I still havent built a proper opinion on Dumfries. He seems to be a fighter, which means he will improve, but his touch is god awful. He even looks awkward when trying to dribble or cross. I dont know if he can improve that, since even if he is the best at everything else, his touch will be a stopper for him to become good enough for us imo.

Will give him way more time before forming an opinion. He's looked real good in some cases and real poor in others.
We have to set our expectations, we aren't getting a hakimi here. But if he can be serviceable that's all we are after.
He still has potential to do well here. I think he'll come decent.

He's our cheapest wingback/fullback acquisition for years so maybe set the expectations accordingly (okay Darmian was cheap but he was a multi purpose rotation option from the beginning). He indeed is no Hakimi and the price tag could tell you that in a second.

Very well said..

And to add he's doing a lot better than people give him credit for, off the ball, running constantly, showing heart/passion, being the only man up top on counters numerous times. Like I said in the match thread basically, he needs to improve his final ball, touches etc but people should be giving this man credit and not criticism.

Those are the main ones imo. Anything more just makes you that much better but the basics are those. Feel free to say what qualities you think are needed for the role instead of just pointing it out :p. You really don't have to be a world beater in order to perform at that position. Moses, Candreva, Asamoah, Giaccherini, Nagatomo, Jonathan all did very well in similar systems.
