I think we got rid of godin to bring vidal. It has to do more with wage issue and the fact we got an offer from cagliari and have to sell to bring new players in than its tactical or cus darmian is coming. Think darmian will be vice hakimi, and i m hundred percent sure smalling will be godin replacement.

This is a move to decrease our wage bill. How much it's decreased it's yet to be seen as it took this long to agree the severance pay. We basically pushed Godin out to save salaries, only one season after we signed him to a 3 year contract (2+option, I don't know).

At least this will allow us to add Vidal but we need to add a defender now also.

From what i see based on Fabrizio Romano, Godin will leave as free transfer to Cagliari.

Yes of course. But this move was to decrease salary bill to allow adding Vidal there. But indeed given the severance pay, Vidal salary and the salary of the new defender, we are only adding salary.

I think management and Conte decided having Godin isn't worth the extra money his salary takes, so we're gonna change him to a cheaper option. This salary saving will allow us to add Vidal. And we have other adds to be made too.

That’s true. To be fair, Godin and Skriniar were always were likely to be exposed playing on the side, often with Candreva for cover.
