Speaking at today’s press conference, Diego Godin looked back at his short time at Inter.

“I had to change my way of playing to adapt to a different system (3-man defense). I changed my mentality to be able to bring the coach’s ideas to the pitch and this required more physical effort than what I was used to. I was, however, able to overcome this challenge with myself and adapt.

“Chile? With Vidal and Sanchez, they have a winning team. They have great players, a mix of young talents and experienced veterans. Vidal was not my teammate at Inter but I know him as an opponent: he is very competitive with a lot of quality. Alexis, on the other hand, has great enthusiasm, one that I know from personal experience.”

He always was a top cb in a back 4. His struggles last season had to do with the system. And at the end of last season he had actually improved and he was decent as a rcb. We let him go because Suning were broke and Conte desperately wanted Vidal. He was never properly replaced or to be exact he was replaced by a guy who can't defend a.k.a. Kolarov.

We can argue he was earning too much for a sub but getting a quality backup cb at a low cost is easier said than done. I am afraid we will realise it this summer.

Godin wanted to be with his wife on Sardinia. It's nice that we are still human and not just doing everything for money.

Sure, we could have a better player than Kolarov playing for us, but human errors happen. Kolarov was a mistake, but at least Conte stopped playing him.

Not exactly, it's not as if he asked to leave. But since we tossed him, he preferred going to his wife's home rather than collect another paycheck somewhere else.

Admittedly I haven't seen much of Cagliari at all but what I'd heard is that he was a poor investment for them.
