3th goal would never be done with Dzeko instead of Correa on the field

He was still injured and got another knock on his head. I’ll cut him some slack today.

Yeah Inzaghi said even Correa had some problems so him starting wasn't 100% clear. But apparently Dzeko was even more unfit.

Was Sanchez issue? I don't see why he was slotted in instead of Alexis, we had a comfortable lead and we just needed to hit on counters, Dzeko isn't suited that well for that and we need him for the Shakhtar game.

Alexis injured himself with Chile and will be out for 2-3 weeks.

And Alexis will go to Instagram to complain about the lack of playing time for us again...

In the meantime Dzeko injured himself with Bosnia, broke his head tonight, and while still had visible blood stains on his bandage, kept defending our goal on corners.

I like what Alexis did for us last season. I rate his ability to be inserted into a game as a substitute and impact the game, more often than not, in a positive manner.

I think it is important to add that he brings skill and ability to our game that our other front men do not have which adds a dimension to our game that is otherwise missing. Alexis coming on to the field often has a cat amongst the pigeons effect.

I understand that he allegedly took a pay cut to remain at the club. But the cycle that he is presently in, namely: get injured --> recuperate --> play for Chile --> get injured is hurting us.

I acknowledge that there is no higher honour than a player being called upon by their country. But surely, he recognises that his international career is greatly hampering his career at club level. The way I see it, Alexis needs to give up his international career or find another club. Because right now, we are essentially playing with three strikers and he is not making anywhere near the required contribution to the team.

We need options and alternatives up front, not a player that continually gets injured for his national team, hardly plays for his club and consequently blames his club for the fact that he does not play.

I don't want to defend Sanchez on this coz his International focus bugs the hell out of me too. He always comes back from Internationals with an injury and is missing in action for us when we desperately need him (like yesterday). That said, its also true that before this international break he was fit and under utilised by Inzaghi. I can understand Inzaghi's rationale - Dzeko & Martinez are our starters, and the coach made Inter spend a very big amount on Correa, and now has to justify that spend so Correa is now the 3rd striker above Sanchez.

The only criticism I can give is that perhaps Martinez should have been rotated a bit more with Sanchez before the last International break. That said, Sanchez will be back in a couple of weeks, and its a long season.

In terms of minutes per goal contribution, Sanchez was our most effective contributor last season, and he is right up there this season as well. So he is still very effective.

Player: Minutes played / Goals scored or created = Minutes per Goal Contribution
Sanchez: 211/3 = 70
Correa: 386/5 = 77
Dzeko: 1178/15 = 79
Martinez: 1102/9 = 122

Using Mins/GC just hides his biggest problem which is his fitness. I know Sanchez usually looks energetic and productive when he plays, but it's one thing to do it in the last 20 mins against tired opponents and another to do it for the whole 90'.

And there have been matches where he started and he wasn't very effective. He wouldnt press well with the team, most of the time just mindlessly chase the ball to no avail. He would overdribble or send a dangerous ball to our defenders. And we can't trust him to slam his body at every challenge like Lautaro either. He will get injured instantly like he does every time with his NT.

Sanchez loves the game and I respect that, but at this age, he should be no more than a supersub. His body can't no longer withstand the intensity of the game and he needs to understand that.

Dzeko actually injured himself at Milano derby and didn't play a single minute for Bosnia in NT break. They tried to, but he simply wasn't ready.

I get these stats but we need to understand, specially in this season, that small sample size can lead us to wrong conclusions. His mins / GC ratio looks great but indeed his mins are pretty low. We can't know what they would be if he had played double minutes. Default starters most probably have always poorer stats. Sanchez is perfect as super sub but probably nothing more. I'm pretty certain his stats would tank if he was a regular starter, we wouldn't be scoring that much which would keep his ratio so great.

And like said, he's injured way too much this season.

Agreed that this season's stats are too small a sample size. However, Sanchez was our most effective player last season too in terms of mins per GC:

2020-21: 1556 mins / 21 GCs = 74 mins per GC
2021-22: 211 mins / 3 GCs = 70 mins per GC

So this season is not an anomaly, and Sanchez's career at Inter is a large enough sample size for my argument. Like I said, his fitness is a concern. His quality & effectiveness isn't. He is our best super-sub, and I wish Inzaghi had used him more in that role before the intl break. But its a long season left, Sanchez will be back in a couple of weeks, hopefully we will use him more as an impact sub.

1500 mins in a season is not a lot. Lautaro played over double of that.

This season is not an anomaly indeed. But it shows Sanchez can produce good GC ratios with limited minutes.

Such an anomaly, but even tho he played badly for the WHOLE of first half, he took two nice chances and buried the game. I guess it's Lautaro and Correa versus Venezia.

He will have to bury most chances after the group stages because he'll get less of them.

Horrible display and yet scored a brace, go figure.

Really glad for his goals though.

Imagine if we had the chance to bag Lewa or Benzema instead of him, we'd be scoring for fun.

I guess, we are scoring for fun, but we need our 'star' strikers to perform better, especially in big matches. Luckily for Džeko and Martinez, we don't have to win any points to progress to the next stage... but surely it makes you wonder how many chances we produce and how many bad shots come from those chances.

You all and myself can hate on him all day long. The fact is his output speaks for itself. What a Lukaku replacement, Beppe is a genius.
