If we stick with 3-5-1-1 and end up having Zapata/Belotti + Dzeko + Lautaro up front, we have a real shot for Top 2 this season. If we end up with Correa, we'd end up relying on Dzeko too much (like how we exhausted Lukaku last year). Lautaro might struggle to play as the target man. We've already seen that with Spaletti's 4-2-3-1.

Very, very important we get a proper CF and manage Dzeko's energy smartly. Or I guarantee 10 matches down the line y'all will be calling Dzeko all sorts of names...

Of all the shitty trades and transfers from Roma, maybe this guy really turns out great.

What a debut. But he can't keep up in both UCL and SerieA. We need more upfront.

I was totally against this transfer and one game doesn't change it. But still he did way better than I expected, so cudos to that.

Still a great striker in the box. If you ve a suited playing.role him, age doesnt matter. Giroud is still a great player in the box too, Ibrahimovic too.

Strikers in the box dont have go be young and fresh..

I didn't want to say it yesterday, but how good does it feel when the striker is capable of a good first touch? When they can lay/pass it first time, etc. Of course he won't bring the pace and other qualities that Lukaku does. But Dzeko is a fucking elite striker, if we can use him properly.

I mean, the guy always had it. Hopefully he can last at least a season at a high level, but we still need another forward.

Dzeko makes our midfielders functioned well. I believe he will give more contributons than Lukaku if he played regularly.

I was against Dzeko coming to Inter and even after the weekend I have mixed feelings about it. But the things that really stood out for me were: (1) his football intelligence; (2) his control of the ball; (3) his efficiency when using the ball and; (4) as odd as this may sound, his grace with the ball.

One game does not make a season but with Lukaku, there were times when the ball would be passed to him and he would lose it because of his first touch. The move would break down even before it began. We came to accept it because he would score and contributed in other ways. But with Dzeko, he receives the ball, instantly has control of it and is looking to use it. What really surprised me is how comfortable he is on the ball and the way he moves. I think it is beautiful to watch.

The only other thoughts I had while I was watching the game related to Dzeko arriving at Inter so late in his career. I have not followed him but would have liked to see him in his prime. Also, I have no idea how much we are going to get out of him but I am certain that given his age, he will not be able to play most games as Lukaku did under Conte.

All the characteristics you mention are the ones that get better with age and experience. When Dzeko is fit and in form he will offer all of that this season. What he can’t do as much of is things like laying out for diving headers or sprinting past players (never really his game anyways). I was always surprised about how his time at City went and that he picked Roma as his next club. Mancini’s obsession with Balotelli kind of screwed him, however he was still decisive in that final game with the famous Aguero goal.

I remember when we was coming out of Wolfsburg all of Europe was raving about him and he was heavily linked to Juve. I actually agree with Brehme, If he would have come straight to Serie A or went to Bayern for example I think he would be looked at in a different light.

If he can play like this for the whole season, no one cares about that 5-6m€ salary.

I always rated Dzeko, really wanted him in the last 2 years when Conte was crying for him. What he did last weekend did not surprise me at all, he has been doing this for years. I am only surprised that some people here sound surprised.

But lets not ignore the reality. Dzeko is 35 and will not be able to play every game. He is also likely to get injured every now and then. We need a quality back up player, who will probably end up playing as much as Dzeko. That is the issue here.

Don't have one.
I think the best comment about his performance was made by inzaghi after the game when he said dzeko could easily open a school for number 9, and it's so true, him movements and touch are still top-notch. Yes he is 35 now, but I've been watching him his whole career, in national team and clubs, and honestly I don't see much difference between his style now and ten years ago. Like someone already mentioned, he has that sort of eternal style and class like luka toni or ibra where you can't even see a significant decline.

With all this being said, we really can't afford to run him to the ground like we did with lukaku, hopefully a new forward that comes together with lautaro will help in that regard.
