As usual, the ideal situation would be offering him a 2+1 year contract, with wages as low as he'll accept.

There's also no way Cavani is the replacement for Lautaro. If anything, I could see us going into the season with Lukaku-Lautaro and Cavani as first option off the bench.

I don't see Cavani at this point of his career seeing himself being a 3rd option, sitting on the bench. He's going to a club which tells him that he's the first choice. Basically Cavani is not coming if Lautaro stays.

But in that case even if Lautaro goes Cavani should/will not be coming here. He can't be our first choice to pair with Lukaku for a whole season, someone like Werner needs to be the Lautaro replacement. Even if we switch to a lone striker formation Lukaku will always be starting so he's on the bench regardless.

IMO if Cavani comes there's plenty of gametime for him across 3 competitions to warrant him joining us, especially due to the busy schedule we'll likely have due to a late season start and early end for the Euros. IIRC he had an agreement with Simeone to join Atletico in January, would he have started there?

Let's say a scenario that somehow if sign both Cavani and Werner. I'd say at least for first year, Cavani would be a starter instead of Werner, unless the latter totally sets the league on fire.

If Cavani is signed and Lautaro leaves, obviously we need a really good 3rd striker too.

The Cavani rumours really increased once Mertens decided to stay with Napoli and Mertens was being lined up to replace Sanchez as the 3rd striker so for me I don't see it being any different.

In that scenario, I'm not seeing why Werner would come here. I struggle to understand the Liverpool rumors but at least they're a proven champion side in multiple competitions at this point so maybe that's enough of a pull for him. We're not at that level, at least not yet. If he came here, it would be as a first choice player, I have to believe.

You might be right.

About Liverpool, that is perfect for them at least, not sure about Werner. Probably for him too. He comes in to EPL, doesn't have immediate pressure to deliver as he's behind their main trio but can back up any of them. Next summer one of them can be sold in a massive sale and Werner takes his place in the starting lineup.

As for Cavani-Werner, I feel Cavani would be more ready to start right away. Pretty certain it would take time for Werner to adjust to Serie A. And it wouldn't be bad for Werner, better for the player too to not have all the pressure from the Italian media 24/7 when you have two great strikers carrying the burden with you.

IF we do get Cavani, he will probably become a sub unless we don't sign someone else too like Werner for example. I'm pretty sure Cavani doesn't want to move to another club just to be benched, and him playing alongside Lukaku isn't exactly a very dynamic attack, especially with the wingbacks we have where they'll have poor support on the wings.

I'd say maybe with Eriksen behind Lukaku and Cavani the attack won't be so bad, but I got a feeling Conte will soon have Eriksen out of the club.

Werner and Eriksen would need at least a year in the video room to study the defensive expertise of mid-table Italian clubs.

Don't worry, Eriksen will be playing in Spain this time next year

Inter have withdrawn themselves from the race to sign striker Edinson Cavani according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The experienced Uruguayan national team forward became a free agent at the start of this month after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired and it was widely reported that Inter were taking a look at him but as per this report, they are no longer chasing him.

Inter are not the only club to have pulled out of the race either with the report explaining that Argentine giants Boca Juniors have too with them unable to afford Cavani’s wages.
