Now as the major tournament is over, England should focus on their young talent rather than calling up old guard. Roy did alright with the squad and time available for preparations. Made obvious mistakes by not calling up players like Carrick, Adam Johnson who are good on the ball.

England's biggest problem was not able to retain possession, this is where Carrick would have been great addition. Now they should change the way the game is played, instead of worshipping players who can run all day, they should concentrate on players who are good on the ball and have good tactical awareness.

They do have some very good young players, will be interesting to see how Roy uses them.

Hart

Walker/Richards Smalling Cahill/Jones Baines

Rodwell Wilshere

Johnson/Walcott Rooney Ox

Welbeck

Players like Rodwell have talent, just need some luck with injuries. Also most of the players bar Walcott are good on the ball, which is what England should concentrate on.

But this is England and we will see Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Terry getting call up for WC qualifiers.

Problem with England is the media and over hyping them. Then they blame them not winning because of their wives and other retarded excuses. The truth is there are only 3 big teams they are Brazil, Germany, and Italy. All three can make it to the world cup dead last, barely make it out of their groups and still lift the trophy or get to a final. No other team has that. People think because the EPL is great that the English team is great but that doesn't really translate, just ask Argentina how they have 2-3 players on basically every club in the world and they do so shitty at big stages. How many actual English players start at Arsenal, Man U, Man City or Chelsea?

If you have read any articles you would see how much they were rated. They had absolutely no expectations. I dont know whether anyone overrates them but there are millions people who just use the phrase "English media overrates english players" bs even without reading any articles.

There are only 3 big teams and you included Italy and Brazil? Brazil is dog bollocks and Italy, well yeah 1 goal from set piece. Spain shits on every other nations except Germans.

And how many English players plays for top teams?

Arsenal: Walcott, Wilshere (When fit)
ManUtd: Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Carrick, Rooney, Welbeck, Young, Scholes, (Clverley was starter before getting injured).
ManCity: Joe Hart, Lescott, Richards, Milner, Barry
Chelsea: Cole, Terry, Lampard, Sturridge.

Want any more players? You just spout stereotype bs that England are overrated even without reading what english media said about their expectations and how they rate the players. (Dont quote Sun and generalize English media).

If anything the most annoying part of football is someone who just believes what they are told and believe it as truth. English media raves aboutSpanish football, sky hype the league after all its their product. Any one with more than half the IQ of chimp would do for marketing, that's how you sell your product.

Historically speaking, Italy, Germany, Brazil are the 3 big teams. I thought that was obvious from his post.

If I have missed then Sorry, but reading that post I felt it was obvious he is talking about present.

Tbh, they do still over rate some of the players. Gerard and Parker especially are very over hyped by the media, yet collectively as a team, there was zero expectation. Most didnt think they would get out of the group. Quite contradictory i know, but thats the impression ive got the last few weeks.

And btw Monster, the dogs bollocks means something good, not bad ;)

Gerrard is understandable though as he was superb player for a decade, but I can't get this Parker love. He just runs like a headless chicken and make few tackles. Very poor with the ball, but from what I have seen things are changing as media are in love with Spanish team and started appreciating technical players.

And re dog bollocks post, safe to say I got that one wrong ;)

Still though, they tend to make out hes a true world class playmaker, even when him and Parker cant string two passes together

Your're right about the Spanish love, but it may start wearing a bit thin if Germany can finally over come Spain. Especially since Barça were beaten in the CL and La Liga too..

Gerrard was never ever a playmaker, yeah bit overrated by media, no denying that. (But like I said it is bit understandable after all he was quality player for few years, now on decline).

Also about Spanish love, I'm not sure, even if German's beat them I dont think they will change the tune. When Spain or Barca plays, journalist wanks about how many passes Spain/Barca made, how Xavi alone made more passes than X Y Z players combined, it is getting hideous.

They love Iniesta more than anyone though, he is just class. I think there are few idiotic pundits like Andy Gray who spouts nonsense and people just generalize as a english thing.

He isnt English.

Well, in this tournament imo, Germany have been wanked off more than Spain have by the English commentators/pundits, other than that the vast majority of football is seen on sky sports who champion La Liga.. Probably has something to do with it

Argentina has 2 WCs. That's 2 more than every country except 7.

I mean Gray spouting shit on Sky about PL.

Yeah Germans are getting all the attention but I haven't seen anyone getting as much as Xavi, Iniesta after Messi. Hopefully German thing will even increase as I can't listen or read about how great Spain are anymore.

In sum, the english team is average and will be like that for a long time. It is in their DNA. Listen man, they've been trying since the late 60s/early 70s to mimic the flair and creativity of south americans (and it hasn't worked) and now they're trying mimic the flair and creativity of the spanish (it will not work).

England need to stick to their game. Play the long ball, play direct, play aggressive, play wide football and cross. That's their DNA and that's what they should stick with. I reckon if they'd play more crosses to Andy Carrol/Welbeck and played more aggressively, they'd have been a lot harder to beat. They have never been and will never be technical.

I dont know what are you on about, because that's how England played in this Euro, they never tired to copy Spain as they never bothered to string 2 passes together.

And I dont know where you got this "they tried to mimic them, now this" thing as from long time England have been long ball, target man merchants and still to date remains the same.

They are harder to beat, they are unbeaten in Euro (If I'm not wrong match decided on penalties will be recorded as draw?). Even if it doesn't count still they lost on penalties. So they are sticking to their old plans.

France has 1, Spain has 1. Thats great but out of every country in the world even if they send a sub 15 girls team I'd still put all my money on those Germany, Italy, or Brazil getting to a final. I like Argentina way better than Brazil but doesn't change the fact that brazil is 10x more likely to get to a final. Not to say that the refs don't help haha turkey got so robbed in 02 vs Brazil, Austrilla/US getting openingly screwed against Italy in 06, Spain scoring 15 goals against Korea and non counting in 02 :)

Some teams just are awesome in big tournies and to me those are the big 3

That's not how England played this Euro's. How many crosses into the air in their 4 games? Get real. The one time they hit a quality cross, carrol scored a beastly header. After that, crosses were few and far in between. Ashley young wasn't crossing at all. Milner? Joke of a player. They played deep defense but when they had the ball, they tried to do patterned play and combinations. Only in the late 2nd half of the last 2 games did they try long balls to carrol.

As for your 2nd comment, it would be best to research English FA grassroots coaching material and philosophy. I am not talking about what happens at senior club level. I am talking about the national infrastructure and what they've emphasized for decades. They've sent coaches to Brazil, argentina to live there and "study" their methods and try to bring it back to the UK. They thought they "unlocked" the mystery when in the 70s they thought brazilians were good at skills because of "street ball". So their national curriculum became centered on allowing "street ball" into their programs. Then in the late 70s to early 90s, they mixed that in with the dutch school of thought and 4v4 games. Now, they send their coaches over to valencia, santander, barcelona (and I know because I've seen them!!) to see what the spanish are doing at the grass roots and bring it over to the UK.
