Christ, the future almost seems bright for Italy. Weird feeling.

This tournament is usually a great indicator for the NTs success.

Italy dominated in the early 90s with 3 of these in a row (Totti, Nesta, Cannavaro, Toldo, Vieri, Dino Baggio etc among others). Reached World Cup final in 1994, had a strong team in 1998 that lost in PK to the eventual winners. Also reached the Euro 2000 final which should have been won.
Italy won in 2000 (Pirlo, Gattuso, Coco, C. Zanetti etc). Two years later should have had the chance to reach the WC final but were robbed.
Italy won in 2004 (Gilardino, De Rossi, Barzagli, Bonera etc). Two years later, Italy won the World Cup.

Hasn't won since then. Hasn't done shit since then in world football either apart from that 2012 Euro final appearance. Italy did reach the final a year later in this tournament but in the 2016 Euro they didn't really use any of these players (which include Immobile, Insigne, Verratti, Saponara, Gabbiadini) apart from Florenzi. Guys like Pelle, Giaccherini, Eder and Zaza were preferred....

Shame the rules of eligibility is very loose. Players who were eligible during qualification phase are eligible to play, so the U21 game between Italy and Spain was full of 22/23 year old players, and most of them should be playing for senior national team. (also it would be harsh if players who helped in qualification were not eligible to play, there is that one too to consider)

Spain used 14 players and only 1 player was 21 year old, rest all were 22 or 23 years old. They take this very seriously though, that's why World cup winner Mata played in this cup long back when he was 23.

The rules are that players who were 21 and under at the time the current cycle began (I'm now reading players born after Jan. 1, 1996) are eligible. And that makes sense, doesn't it? Seems weird that you would have one group of players who got you through the qualifying stage, and then they age out and you replace them with a new batch right when the championship stage begins.

Despite its name, the under 21 is actually an under 23. Their cycle is 2 years long, so the players need to be younger than 21 when the cycle begins.

Yeah, that's what I said too that it would be harsh if the players who helped them in qualification are not eligible to play in the cup.

It should be renamed to U23 and for qualification only U21 and younger players should be eligible. As it is, the name is u21 and players don't play a single player who is younger than 21.

I am going to pull a brehme here, but didn't it used to be called U-23 originally?

I’m biased, but that’s totally undeserved by Poland.

That was a fuck up by Barella, he is lucky to still be on the pitch!

Mondragora should have buried the one that has been organized by Chiesa. Perhaps we wouldn't have Barella fouling there

Kean in for Orsolini. Now finally we have the line up I wanted Azzurrini to start with. They need to increase the speed of their passing and attack with an additional player.

What an awesome volley by Chiesa!

What is Chiesas real position? Hes everywhere, always running. Barella hasn't looked worth 40-50M so far this tournament.

No one is worth that figure unless he scores 15-20 goals a season but market is crazy and is always going worse.

Woeful final ball by Italy today. Reminiscent of an Inter game.

Poland celebrating like they won this championship..celebrate, more then tournaments like this you will not win, better make profit of it.

Zaniolo was anyway shit. Even if Barella didn't do something special, he gives the team much more then other cunts like Zaniolo and Mandragora.
