Shorten the games to 60 minutes? Do they want more drawn games?
Draws? Not exciting enough. There's probably going be the introduction of extra time and a shootout to decide these games after regulation - with one point awarded to the losing team. Everybody wins :p

Well for starters yes because of COVID and lockdowns but prior to that, every field in my area (there's about 35-40 of them) was full of kids playing football whether in a league or just pickup. Football is growing, but again the only time ANY sport isn't about money is with the kids.

You live in the wrong side of the river.

It's been a dying breed since the early 2000s in Europe as a whole. It's a very surprising feat in the 2010s and it's going to be an unknown one in the 2020s, covid or not.

I'll only watch the MLS/NHL hybrid penalty shootout if it comes to that.

For all of you guys bitching on behalf of other teams... where were these teams between 2012 and 2018 when we had to sell our best players and watch the likes of Guarin and Nagatomo every week, because that was all we could afford while playing in Serie A and the Europa League ?

The only reason we are where we are is that we are own by billionaires that have spent almost a billion dollars on Inter in 4 years... How is the status quo sustainable? Its clear Suning can't do what they're doing forever. Even if they do sell the club, as things are now, without a shit ton of shady "sponsorship" deals Inter is deep in the red economically. Inter is a big club in name only right now and have been for a while. Even when we win the league next month, Inter will still be magnitudes behind the top European clubs and even Juventus.

Inter fans should be welcoming this with open arms, this at least gives Inter a chance in the future.

Maybe you live on the wrong side of the river? Its a rapidly growing sport in North America, with some 850k playing as of last year. Registration goes up every year. That's just in the US, we haven't included Mexico or Canada or the Caribbeans. What I do find interesting is that hockey in Canada is slowly dying, and football in Europe has less interest in it. I suspect it's like eating the same food over and over, eventually you get sick of it.

2018: We need a breakaway league!
2021: Breakaway league is bad for football.

2 things:
1)I'm not for the ESL
2)There are many more quotes, pictures etc of owners over the past 5 years saying roughly the same thing and now are saying the opposite...

And yet, everyone of those people you mention watches the European leagues and not domestic ones. You're following a European team by being here.

Football in Europe, the core of the sport, has been almost like a dead sport for roughly 10 years now. What you see on television from some CL nights is an illusion or some hopeful glimpses from the past in league games, that will unfortunately never really come true again. It's a dead sport.

There's a reason why this is happening. The target is the young kids from the Americas, Africa and Asia. The ones that never had this feeling that Europeans grew up with and they want to replace it with this "experience". The FIFA ultimate team come to reality, the "elite", getting kids to watch the same teams over and over again in order to get more familiarized with them, having no "shitty" teams or players around, so that you know all the important players and teams and make it easier to market.
They're capitalizing the fact that the sport is growing in some parts of the North Americas, some parts of central/western/eastern Africa, some parts of Asia, acknowledging that they've already pretty much killed the sport in Europe. There's nothing left for them in Europe to squeeze. Apart from squeezing fans from areas who'd not actively support a foreign club, but now it becomes their main club since their local club cannot amount to shit due to UEFA and the greed of pretty much half of the "Dirty Dozen".

In Europe it has nothing to with having the same food, it's corruption, the flow of money that eliminates competition, betting and lack of faith in the federations that has led to this. In Canada I'm not sure why hockey is declining, probably there's less ice around :D

It's a stupidly expensive sport, and the demographics of the country are changing rapidly. The amount of people who move to Toronto from India and China are insane, who gravitate towards basketball more than hockey.

Football should be naturally a big sport in Canada, and we can argue it is from a grassroots perspective but it's tough when you need to scout players for academies and clubs when the country is so fucking massive.

Hell even rugby was the most popular sport pre-WWII before the country became more American-ized and it adopted American football.

You make a lot of assumptions. There's actually people here that follow MLS and European leagues because the enjoy the sport. It has nothing to do with where they are from. I know football in Europe has less viewership, I spent a month in Pescara about 9 years ago and anyone I asked when and what time they play at all i got was, "How the fuck should I know?" Europeans care less for the sport because they have other priorities now, like actually working and trying to survive. Also most people realized that these athletes make 100x more than them so why should they spend a single Euro on them when they do nothing to support their communities.

Hockey is dying here because it's the most expensive sport to play. Not only do you have to pay for ice time (around 50-75 CAD per person) but you also have to purchase equipment anywhere from $600-5k and if you are a goalie you are even more f'd, plus there are league fees and sometimes team fees. So it could end up costing you 10k just to play the sport for 6-7 months a year...

What is so peculiar about 'european' kids man, cmon.

is there something inherent in pink assholes that make football more lovable to them?

As if Sergio from the favellas does not have more " feeling " for the game growing up than any other mf in the world

Americas => North America in this case. I think it was rather obvious.

Americas is literally both Americas.

And still, you have a lot of people in Africa who dream same as the European ones. Football is a global thing, even more so than basketball. While the NBA has capitalised on it, cavemen from Europe still think that there is something unique about getting molested under the stand of a 5th league team
