He will because he loves the club, and we do have to remember that footballers have it pretty good. However, it'd be nice if Barcelona didn't ask some of the players who turned them into the global force that they have become over the last 15 years to take a pay cut over mutually-agreed contract terms because of the club's mismanagement, and figured out other ways of moving forward.

I think that's the point that is trying to be hit.

Exactly - Busi & Pique will take a pay cut and as you rightly point out, they do it for the love of the club and recognizing what it has already given them

And I agree, that ideally shouldn't ask your cantera players but similarly they should've never been on those wages to begin with. This, again, is the mismanagement of Bartomeu. I think there, it's a shame that our own board/President put the club in this predicament (I mean, honestly, I think he should be jailed/fined for his malfeasance) but I also believe our own players took advantage - surely they had to know it would never be sustainable to put them on 52M annual wages (Pique's rumoured wages)

Well, neither Pique nor Busquets qualify for that, so there's that.

It's actually the exact opposite in their case and I hope Messi, Iniesta and Xavi get some royalties from those amounts.

Accepting a contract offer is taking advantage, but weaselling your way out of them is not. The mental gymnastics you put yourself through...

Accepting a contract offer from cantera players that know it is excessive by just about any metric, if Barto tried to weasel out of it then yes it would be hypocritical. How is it weaseling for Laporta to do it when he would've never agreed to those terms - hopefully him & Alemany give a stern talking to their captains about being reasonable

Would you reject a better contract offer from your company? It's not the players job to know whether it's sustainable or not. Also the contract is with fc barca not Laporto or barto, barca needs to respect contracts entered into.

I have read if La Liga don't allow them to register new players they will activate the next lever but that's their last resort.

Depends. Is it your company too? Does its survival have importance to you? Is much of your success down to said company? Would you then not reduce your exorbitant wages to help said company?

If I were Pique & Busquets, then yes - and that is exactly what has been reported to have occurred

Now, if you are Braithwaite et al you milk your company for every cent even if you have better options outside of the company since you have nothing invested in its success/vitality

Pique and busquest members of the socios. If not it's not their company.

That's the thing, they are Catalan kids who grew up at the club & are members of a club owned by its members. Its success is in their interests unlike foreign kids

Yet Barca is spending left and right buying all these people. They'd be stupid to take a paycut.

Wages are not synonymous with expenditures for new players to reinforce the squad - this is about FFP in the Primera Liga, not money hidden behind the cushion in the sofa

These new players are gonna get wages that are added to the wage bill, so existing players have to reduce their wages, play for free or leave otherwise they dont care about the well being of the club as per ur logic.
