Good for the Saudis man. They finally realized it's better to build up and develop their own league rather than buy and throw money at European nobodies
Is this not the exact opposite of what they're doing? Minus the nobodies part.

Damn, he's willing to give up 400m? Idk if stupid or what lol
You realize that this move could make him a billionaire, right?

Gets more exposure in the most sport consuming part of the world, get shoe deals and whatnot.

And also, it's not always about money. If you can make 200m in the USA and 400m in Arabia, while your networth is already in the mid 9 digits, you pick the USA.

Could, choosing Arabia guarantees him to be a billionaire. I thought His net salary is 50M at Inter Miami? 350M short of his salary from the Saudis.

I guess you have a point on your last paragraph, I'm always for players getting their bag.

You don't become a billionaire with your salary, no matter how high, in the USA.

Messi has the potential to reach those figures if he plays there for 2-3 seasons. And obviously not overnight, but within the next decade.

Moving to Saudi Arabia gives him a big fat paycheck but also gives him a negative light.

After not even a full day i wish he had chosen the saudis... The americans are already annoying with their MLS hype before he even kicked a ball....
News flash the average football fan still wont give a shit about MLS I rather watch bologna cremonese than any MLS game even if messi is involved.
Yes some messi fans will tune in but common now...

Also like brehme pointed out this wont change the quality of the league...
Level still is lower than the level of lower ranking european countries...

Agree with most with what you said, however if Messi's team is on at a decent time and in some kinda playoff match then I may tune in for a while.

You were saying he COULD be a billionaire with his move to Inter Miami, I'm saying he WILL be a billionaire if he chose Saudi.

And why should he give a shit about getting a "negative light"? People will always talk shit lol

Yeah, sure. But still, the potential to become a billionaire in the USA without having all the woke nobodies talk shit about you and your decisions sounds better than having to tolerate a potentially intolerable lifestyle for himself and family no matter the money in Saudi Arabia and being paraded around as some token for a World Cup bid in the process.

It's obviously a lot of money. A lot more in Saudi Arabia in the short run. But the potential in the USA is there to join the likes of MJ, Kobe and other guys with branded products.

USA or SA, it's still strange to me that he give up Europe this easily. I hope he stays in Europe for at least one more season.

Did you just put USA and not woke at the same sentence? Lol anyway, seems like he made his choice. Living in Miami isn't too shabby.

Meh, I would actually go to TFC game when Messi is here.

Edit: ah fuck, just realized they played Inter Miami at home already.

Not really. Messi was only interested in playing for Barcelona in Europe. He didn't have the motivation to go to another European team. Even in 2021 he moved to PSG only because of the upcoming World Cup. But now things are different. 2026 is very far. He may not even be active by then. He had no reason to stay in Europe.

It is strange because players leaving Europe usually fall off the radar pretty quick and Messi is someone who like to play at the highest level and win, even at this age and after winning everything there is.

No, I didn't. I said that the woke crowd won't appreciate someone who's taking money from the Saudis. Whereas a rather silent Messi that barely speaks English, in Miami, where most people speak Spanish, is not something that will make him popular amongst those crowds, where being popular in those crowds is not a good thing.

FC Barcelona wishes Lionel Messi the best of luck in his new professional phase

Both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barça fans to honor the footballer

On Monday, June 5, Jorge Messi, the player’s father and representative, informed Club President Joan Laporta of the player's decision to join Inter Miami, despite having been presented with a proposal from Barça, in consideration of the desire of both FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi for him to once again wear blaugrana.

President Laporta understood and respected Messi's decision to want to compete in a league with fewer demands, further away from the spotlight and the pressure he has been subject to in recent years.

Both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barça fans to honor a footballer who has been, is, and always will be beloved by Barça.
