I'm blaming Laporta for his disgusting tactics.

Saving a club in dire financial straits which is why he was prompted to run for election in the first place? Yep, pretty revolting for the opposition

Contrast with Bartomeu who had both Coutinho & Dembele throw a strop and refuse training in order to sign while Joan & Alemany respectfully worked with clubs to sign players with them behaving professionally all the way. Raphinha and Lewy could've earned more by going elsewhere but Barca draw is enticing. Similar will happen with Kounde and eventually Silva

FDJ is an inherited problem in terms of exorbitant wages, much of which has been deferred but none of it reduced compared to others including Messi. From there you can decide what is reprehensible, players holding a club over the barrel for wages they cannot afford despite a clown President signing him to it or accept being sold so that he can get the wages he wants elsewhere

Laporta reorganized the massive debt left to him under terms better than Barto had planned with Goldman Sachs, similar with the CVC deal that Joan refused to sign off on due to how dangerous a position it left the club eventhough it meant being unable to sign Leo. Everything Laporta does with the club is with an eye on sporting & financial to ensure the strongest future possible. He inherited a mess but he will bring the club out of it shining, I have no doubt. The only thing disgusting from my POV is how the former President ruined the state of the club that led to losing Messi

Player signed the deal with the club irrelevant with which president he signed. The club is contractual obliged to give him the wages he signed for. He is not responsible for barca mismanagement nor does he owe barca any pity or help.
If barca can sign new players on big wages they can afford to pay him the owed wages by not signing those players. They are choosing not to honor their agreements.

He signed a contract with the club, not with Bartomeou.

Terms set/agreed by Bartomeu. No point going in circles here - club is bigger than any President but equally a poor board can ruin a club/business. Fortunately, in a democracy you can vote out the bad to course correct which is exactly what is happening now

And that democracy abides but whatever laws were voted before those representatives took over.
Why is this so hard to understand? There's no Bartomeu's Barcelona and Laporta's Barcelona. There's just Barcelona.

I agree, it’s straightforward. One President has to assume the debts/mess of a former one but they are not culpable for those decisions - just tasked to get them through it

Check around, not many democratic institutions see this kind of turnaround in such little time

Laporta inherited the contracts signed earlier. It doesn't give him any moral justification to shit on those contracts.

Money in De Jong contract is what it is. They agreed to defer the money paid. Now is the time to pay that money, so pay it. It's not about lack of money like we see from all the signings incoming.

I really hope this drags on if Laporta doesn't agree to pay. Barcelona can't get away with this if De Jong agents just stay tough.

You agree Laporta inherited a critical situation but rebuke him for trying to remedy the situation? There's no magic here, either you accept your fate and sink or you look for solutions to swim/thrive. He is selling a portion of future TV rights to help them climb out of the immediate financial debacle while having to cut the inherited wages & contracts. There is no moral ambiguity here, he is making business decisions like he had to with Messi. If Leo is not safe from protection, why would poor Frenkie? The club is most important

Laporta did not agree to the deferred money, he inherited the contract but that doesn't mean he has to live with it without trying to find a solution to rid himself of that anchor by either getting him to reduce wages or head to the exit

Watch and see how it plays out, whatever the outcome (FDJ staying & reducing wages or being transferred) Barca will be in a better financial situation than they were at the start of the summer much less since Laporta's election 17 months ago. They are already in a better position in terms of overall wages, squad depth & sponsor. It will continue to move in the right direction coupled with sporting success

The club is finally on the right path after a decade of mismanagement

The legal ramifications do not tend to be carried personally unless instructed from the general assembly. No clue what happened with Barcelona there, the standard practice is to vote in favor of that, but I doubt Bartomeu got away that easily.

But that's the legal aspect of the "blame game". When it comes to honoring agreements, you cannot really go back and say that this agreement was bad, I don't like it so I won't exercise it. This is where Barcelona stands now with De Jong.

Personally, I would push for a lawsuit against Bartomeu for malfeasance nevermind the corruption with Barcagate & paying off media to propagandize for him. Still, there are socis like myself trying to push for a motion to pursue Bartomeu for this since part of accepting to run for Presidency means you are on the hook financially for losses and somehow he has inexplicably gotten off the hook. I do not believe, however, the story with Bartomeu is over

I understand Frenkie has a contract and he's entitled to what was signed - I am not feigning ignorance here but equally I understand & support Laporta trying to rid the club of either the player or his high wages. With Leo unable to continue, there are no sacred cows - you roll with us or get rolled up by us. To that end, Frenkie would have to accept lowering his previously agreed contract wages or agree to move out of the club where he can get whatever wages he desires

Fact is, Barca have legally committed themselves to paying the agreed wage to Frenkie, and can't force him to do either of those things. Messi's case was different cause his contract was up. Frenkie's isn't.

Trust us. We Inter fans are very experienced at having overpaid players our club can't get rid of.

More than just a club indeed. Especially when they owe you money.

Obviously I get the motivation for a fan to defend their club especially in a "hostile" environment, but you sound like a loony right now.
