Bowyer Feared Attacks In Birmingham
6/22/2005 4:16:00 PM
Newcastle United’s controversial midfielder Lee Bowyer rejected the opportunity to move to Birmingham City because he was concerned for his physical safety, according to Blues’ co-owner David Sullivan.
Bowyer looked set to join Brum last week until strong opposition from a section of Birmingham fans persuaded the player to change his mind, much to the dismay of the club’s hierarchy.

"Steve Bruce [Birmingham manager], we thought, had talked him round," Sullivan told the Birmingham Evening Mail.

"But he [Bowyer] was genuinely worried that one night there would be 10 Asians waiting outside his house ready to kick seven bells out of him.

"We are not going to beg if someone clearly doesn’t want to join us."

Sullivan also revealed that the 28-year-old Londoner would welcome a move abroad.

"He told us that he would only leave Newcastle if a London club came in for him, or one from France," said Sullivan.

"Why France? Apparently he likes it and believes he could live quite anonymously over there."

Meanwhile Sullivan made it clear that Birmingham are determined to sign other targets before the start of the new season.

"We will battle on," he said. "We gave it our best shot, and we have lost this round - but there are others still to come. The search goes on."

This is so nice to hear, finally the fans have their much deserved voice heared, and they did it in a smart way.

Some Birmingham fans made an online petition or something, and when Bowyer saw it he got scared. Good for him, learn how to act your age and stop being a kid.

The Transfers & Rumours belongs to the category F.C. Internazionale Milano. Hence, it means that all forum under that category should be nothing but about Inter. So, this forum is thus created under the European Leagues forum. :)

I'm really getting sick of Gilardino and his agent! I can't check a soccer website for a day without hearing about him, where he is to go and his preference to AC Milan.

I hope he breaks his foot or his leg while at home or walking in the street, and I hope this injury keeps him out of soccer for at least 6 months so I'd not hear about him for a while :fero:

If Chelsea is smart, they'd dish whatever is required to entice Gilardino to join them. Gilardino flanked by Robben & Duff...Gila! (Gila in Indonesian literally means crazy)

I wish that happens too. I don't want him to go to AC since him and Sheva would be a deadly combo.

Please Roman, for once make a wish of me come true :p

Isn't it all too fishy as to why Parma insist on negotiating with AC Milan when Chelsea clearly have more money to offer?

I mean, since when do you respect a players desire that much? Gila has said he rather stay in Italia, but who the hell is he or his agent to dictate their transfer? I, too, am sick of all this non-sense.

his the typical box player.

But hten again so is Drogba, and in the air Drogba IS better then Gilardino. And for about 26 million Drogba apperently 'failed' in his first season. I dont know what they expect from him, it was his first season in EPL.

Either way, Gilardino wont go to Chelsea. Because at the moment, there has not been any meetings or strong rumours such as spoken words like what happened with Del Horno.

Man Utd are close to signing Park from PSV. I think that he is a good player and I was impressed with what I saw last season. There is ob a lot of competition at Man Utd and hopefully he won't end up spending all his time on the bench.

YeaH!

Park is very good Player! He can play anyposition in midfield.

He's not uniform seller like former gunners man Inamoto.

He has strong stamina just like He has two Hearts!

As Korean, I expect Park would active in full blast at Old Trafford.

I don't expect Park to get much playing time... he's a very good player but will take a while for him to earn first team spot. I suspect he'll make a big impact on the Asian market. That's inevitable though.

Of course, He hard to get much playing time as compared in PSV.

Your opinion Of course, it is.

But, He's not just uniform seller.

My Opinion, He is already asia's supreme midfielder with Nakata, Sunske , Mahdavikia and Karimi.

I'm sure that Park is involved in Fergie's long range plan.

Indeed, but it's a one year deal. This guy is amazing as how he escapes tough situations. I want to see him once in a jail OZ-style, good luck escaping that.

About Park, he is a very very good player, with Stamina.

And it's so true, he isn't a 'uniform seller' he plays hard and gives it his best. I was surprised at the low price, but he will defintely give the ManU team some much needed energy. And his pace would be perfect for the EPL.

Park is a lot better than Nakata. In my opinion Nakata doesn't bring much these days.

You are right, Helal. What was I thinking? The best solution for Chelsea is to stick with Didier Drogba, who was France's most lethal striker in 02/03 & 03/04, regardless of Roman's unlimited resources. They released Crespo in 2004, they shouldn't make the same mistake.
