During his funny and entertaining press-conference of presentation - in which he mixed up Italian, English, Calabrese dialect, and arguably provided some cliched Soprano vibes and vintage unintentional comedy moments (almost worthy of other Italian American presidents from the recent past and lower leagues) - Rocco Commisso picked up where Della Valle left off, speaking about Chiesa:

“My intention is to keep Federico Chiesa for at least another year. ok? I don’t want him to be “the Baggio of Rocco's life”. Do you know Baggio, eh? [journalists laughing] Where did he go, Juventus? [Commisso laughs too]”

“They assured me that there’s no agreement to make him go elsewhere, ok? My intention is to keep him so Fiorentina fans can enjoy Chiesa”.

Inevitable but still blasphemous (or simply, sad sign-of-the-times) comparison aside, someone has to wonder if these will be the famous last words of a bianconero. The road to selling players is always paved with “good intentions”, but Viola supporters taking a picture with their president while holding the “Juve merda” scarf was a good start (at the same time, many of them would get rid of Chiesa for the right, extremely inflated price). New Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has pledged not to sell Federico Chiesa, ‘not even for €100m. We don’t need the money.’

Chiesa had been heavily linked with Juventus and Inter before Commisso’s takeover, and the Italo-American billionaire plans to make the winger one of the cornerstones of his project for the Viola.

“I said on the day of my presentation that Chiesa represented Fiorentina in the national team,” he told Corriere dello Sport.
