Joao Felix on loan to Milan, Marotta and Ausilio with their dicks in their hands.

Utter, utter incompetence.

Whatever it is, it's hardly incompetence. Marotta is a football man who knows what a squad does and does not need, but he's not the one making the decisions on the finances needed to complete these deals.

I fear that this might be one of those nearly seasons - nearly champions, nearly Coppa winners, but not quite getting over the line in any of them. There is too much of a dependence on a core of players and if they get injured or just fatigued (as a couple are currently looking) then it's going to be hard to maintain the required levels.

In banter era we had much better mercatos, this is ridiculous. Our back up strikers suck big time.

You do realize that this Team you are so envious for by the players they are signing is 5 points away from the 4th place right ? And if you see carefully the only teams properly investing are the ones fighting for that 4th spot. Because the loss of that money pool will be huge for their finances. We don't have that stress since CL spot is pretty much consolidated hence can plan signings properly in summer.
You need to remove that "Grass is greaner on the other side" mindset guys really and focus on what we are doing

The club has clear financial targets to achieve while remaining competitive on the field. Yes it's annoying when you feel like you need just 2 or 3 additions to transform this team from a contender for Serie A title to contender for CL as well but although it looks easy on paper those 2/3 additions need careful planning and probably 2/3 years if you need to do it under financial constraints .

I think this year is the first one where all our mercato additions have failed to deliver. We have been used to free signings like Mikhi , Acerbi , Thuram etc overperforming massively and this year Taremi and Zielenski didn't hence why we are struggling slightly. If struggling means being potentially 1st in the table and already in the top 4 in CL :)

Yeah, we are really one Thuram / Lautaro injury away from a complete collapse.

The management is to blame here. Almost everyone here was against the signing of Arnautovic. While a lot of us found the signings of Correa and Taremi questionable. A lot of money wasted there. And while all 3 of them are kinda useless, they are still on our payroll. There’s no room for a sixth forward clearly (and rightfully so).

With the departure of Correa and Arnautovic coming summer we will obviously see another forward incoming. Let’s hope we will be able to offload Taremi (most probably not, I know), so we can see two.

Milan have really gone to town in this window. Gimenez costs them around 35m euros and the loan fees and wages for Walker and Joao Felix will be well in excess of what they have taken the other way for Romero and Morata. Remember they spent 40m euros net in the summer too. They're all in to make the Champions League places and I guess it's doable trailing Juventus in fourth by 5 points with a game in hand.

We complain about our mercato but just look at the other title contender, Napoli. They sold Kvara and they're replacing him with Noah Okafor who had failed his medical few days ago.

It's like you can only fight for the title or have a good mercato. You can't have both

A bit of revisionism there surely. Arnautovich yes, you could get why they wanted him as he had a similar profile to Dzeko, but to pay what they did for him was desperate. I think everyone was enthusiastic about Correa who had been excellent at Lazio and gave them something in principle they did not have (and do not currently have). I don't think anyone could have foreseen how it has worked out for him. And Taremi is not really a waste considering he cost nothing and isn't even paid vastly well to compensate for that.

The players we have now as Mourinho says, its capital from previous investments. We are spending that capital with every year that passes.

Napoli goes against all logic though, or all non-Juventus logic that allows them to spend what they want whenever they want to. Failing to qualify for the CL usually leads to a belt-tightening exercise, demanding new manager arrival or not, but it's been the opposite for Napoli.

Sure, they expected to sell Osimhen and Kvara ended up being that big sale, but 150m out and just 82m back in is a lot for a club with a big drop in income.

Telling arna to fuck off, insisting on it, putting pressure on him, and after bringing someone on loan or trying something else isn't really connected with the fact we can't spend money like we used to. This is just a numbers game where we would easily be in a position to bring someone else if they just had the balls to tell a player who underperformed since he came here to pack up his bags and fuck off, coz he clearly isn't good enough for this level. They simply don't wanna do it, and they should, coz it was their mistake to begin with that he is even here for this long.

Taremi as the 4th/5th striker is probably not the end of the world. Maybe this is too optimistic, but get Castro and maybe Seba back here (though there's plenty of reason to think management just doesn't rate Seba at all) and we'd be more than good with our striker situation. (As I wrote last night, maybe in this thread even, I think any talk about David is pointless unless Thuram leaves in the summer, but obviously that's not really a desirable thing to see happen.)

Yeah, its a crazy war between Milan and Juve for 4th. Both teams realizing they could lose the spot and the income , some sponsorship money and prestige. Juve doesn't even have shirt sponsor yet and they need this qualification to get one.

Imagine one of these teams fail to do it since its highly likely there's no 5th spot for Italy.

But another thing is, in UCL we still meet one of these teams. So there will be pressure on us. Whoever comes up against us we start it as a favorites still, but dropping out vs Milan / Juve is unimaginable pain.

I might have slept on something but since when do we have the pressure to push in the winter mercato? It’s literally the mercato you do when you realize you’re stuck in shit.

Results wise we made the round of 16 in CL and are all but fighting for the Scudetto, so I don’t really see the need there.

Our squad is as following:
- Sommer, Martinez, Di Ge —> no need for transfers
- Pavard, Bisseck, De Vrij, Acerbi, Bastoni, Carlos —> obviously Acerbi is the one that has to get replaced long term in the summer, but Bisseck is capable of giving De Vrij a break here and there
- Dumfries, Darmian, Dimarco, Zalewski —> sorted out here obviously
- Barella, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Asllani, Mkhitariyan, Zielinski —> we have a lot of work in summer in front of us, but there is simply no market for Frattesi in the winter, and getting Sucic was the first right thing to do
- Lautaro, Thuram, Taremi, Arnautovic, Correa—> here also it is clear that we have work to do in summer, but as of now there wouldn’t have been better opportunities

I am pretty sure that there is a lot of movement upcoming for the summer, and we are prepared as we’ve seen with Sucic, but to invest now for the sake of investing would have been the wrong sign. We are one of eight squads going through directly with the best defense in Europe and haven’t lost in 17 games in Serie A, so I don’t know how you see transfers to be necessary at the minute.

I would prefer someone as David to Castro. We have a very promising talent in Pio. While with David we have someone we can rotate with Lauti and Thuram from te start.

Paz and Ricci on top of Sucic is only realistic if we offload Asllani, Frattesi and Zielinski on top of that. Altough i wouldn’t be against that, i don’t think we gonna do that.

Fratessi,Calha might be sold and Miki is ancient.
Sucic to replace Frate,Ricci to replace Calha and Paz to give grandpa Miki a breather(he plays too much)Maybe Paz just a dream for us idk.
We are not getting David as he wants to be a starter and with Toro and Thuram he won't be
Castro is the perfect 3rd choice.

Sommer/Martinez

Pavard-SDV-Bastoni
Darmian/Bisseck-newCB-Palacio

Dumbfries/Zalewski-DiMarco/Carlos A

Bare-Ricci-Paz
Sucic-Asslani-Miki/Zielinski

Toro-Thuram
Castro-Taremi
Pio Esposito

Cant wait Coppa and CL games vs them when friggin Felix or Gimenez bite our asses. With those two they are already stronger then they were yesterday. And we couldnt beat them yesterday.Season is long and we failed to solve a backup striker problem. Thats is whats all about.
