Congrats to the Italian members and Azzurri fans of the forum. It was totally deserved.

It is a Shame though that the worst performer on the Italy team bar Emerson and Immobile was Barella.

He has seemed headless for the entire knockout stage.
Barella had a poor second round at Inter last season so this was hardly surprising.

They were horrendous... Italy's formation was 4-3-Chiesa for the longest time.
Exactly. And Insigne is the italian Sterling. Good pace and dribbler but a headless chicken. Always keeps the ball too much.

Just so happy and relieved that this went Italy's way.

I need footage from Glasgow and Edinburgh to feel complete :)

this is where, imho, england's home grown rules have driven the right behaviours. Look at how broad this England squad is, in terms of clubs called up from.

Everton, City, City, Utd, Atletico, Leeds, West Ham, Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham. 8 clubs in the starting line up.

And you cant say they arent great players for the most of it too - young, energetic, playing well, etc. It's somehow driven through a lot of good talent.
I always find good this homegrown rule. Practically teams were forced to develop players. And that bring results in the long run.
Also, maybe I am not familiar enough, but I don't see in England the habit to bring so many old players (Kolarov, Young, Borja type). They have much more kids whixh are brought in the first team. Even at the bigger clubs.

Ah man, absolutely gutted although Italy deserved the win. I also wish I put money on Saka and Rashford to miss penalties because I called it the moment they came on. Both are massively overrated and you can see that Saka was nervous the entire game.

Feel bad for Pickford the most, did everything and even pulled off another save against Jorginho when I thought it was all over, only for the others to bottle it.

We were gifted the chance to play every game at home, decisions go our way, easy draws but still couldn’t win. Fuck me.

One random thought:

There's been no better development in the television presentation of football than the broadcast showing penalties from behind the kick taker. I remember watching the shootout in 2006, as an eleven year old, and barely being able to tell where the ball was going.

One of the biggest intrigues of every major competition for me is how this time England is going to embarrass themselves. Well, they were quite creative this year, I gotta give it to them. One day it will come home guys 😂😂
It'll come the day they lose their arrogance.. I mean, I for sure wouldn't put money on it

It must be said, against Spain he was found lacking for technical ability and against England he was found lacking for physicality.

With that being said he is still the youngest in that midfield starting 3 by 4 years. At his age Verratti and Jorginho still had no place in the national team (whether that should have been the case is another story). Neither of them featured in the last Euros. Italians age like wine so I’m sure he will be fine. I think it was noticeable that Verratti and Jorginho have gained experience from playing high pressure CL knockout games. That’s the pinnacle of football, Barella hasn’t tasted that yet.

Ez win by Italy, since England forgot they could actually attack. Bonucci MOTM sounds about right.

As far British arrogance goes, I've heard it comes from the need to be supportive to the team through all media, since this is the first time in years for them to look decent in a major tournament. Since more and more people started believing, the hype snowball couldn't be stopped. I guess it almost worked, but the penalty takers Southgate brought on .... Yikes. Shot himself in the leg. At least give them 15 minutes to play first or smth. And don't put a youngling last?

On the other hand, Jorginho fucked up which was unexpected. I'd be pissed if Italy didn't win, abysmal penalty.
