Congrats to Spain on a magnificent game and result. Well deserved win for a side who outhustled and outplayed their more talented opponent the entirety of the game.
Now some may think I am wrong that England has more talent, and that is fine. Just my take on it. But to me this game demonstrates the importance of team play, of everyone being on the same page and working together in a good plan of attack.
From that perspective the England manager came up short. He conceded building up from the back very quickly, which can work if you coordinate your long kicks by the keeper with a strong high press. But England did not do that. They instead turned the ball over to Spain almost every long kick, and that resultant possession they gave up plus their turnovers in their own possession due to the strong team defense of Spain was too much to overcome.
So I think it will be very funny if England retains Southgate. And if they do they can look forward to many more disappointing ousters in big games in the future. Also this is why I like "Big Game" Inzaghi so much... He understands the value of boldness on the attack and coordinating the different elements on the pitch towards that goal.
Such an impressive tournament by Spain, to eliminate all the best and most talented opponents on the road to the championship. Well done.
