Perrin, Laporte, and Umtiti behind Mangala and Mathieu? Lacazette, Gameiro behind Giroud and Gignac? Tremoulinas and Kurzawa behind Digne? Sissoko over Kondogbia or even Rabiot? Still a very good squad but Deschamps clearly has his favourites.

I completely forgot about Laporte, agree he should be in the reserves at least.

Favourtism is one of the biggest problems with NTs. Managers refuse to make objective roster decisions these days.

Laporte was injured in late March and is expected to be out until late June which makes the decision of not selecting him understandable.

Neither Laporte, Umtiti or Perrin have played a NT match yet. Umtiti and Laporte will for sure be important for the NT in the future but you have to pick players with experience from playing for their country when it comes to those tournaments. I'm not defending all of Deschamps decisions but I do find these understandable as you should only add one or two players with no prior NT-experience but no more. We can then discuss why Laporte hasn't played a single match for them up until the start of this tournament.

I read online that Laporte said he would consider playing for Spain if excluded from the French Euro 2016 squad...interesting.

Just for the record, Perrin has been called up many times but has never made his debut. If your point is that you need players who have shown they can deal with the pressure and can gel with the group, I'd say that Perrin is more composed and more of a leader than any of France's defenders bar Evra.

In any case, that's an argument for not calling them up to the final list. That's not an argument to justify repeatedly calling up inferior players to the France national team, as you implied.

Calling up inferior players has been the DNA of the French NT team for quite some years. Domenech did the exact same.

Good point with Evra.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Giroud the only big target man they have? And that's why he's being called up, if not to start but as a plan B.

Giroud might not be the best striker they have but he offers hold-up play, which the others except Gignac don't.

Gignac on the other hand...

Gignac has been impressing for his club which is in a new country (Mexico) on a whole new continent for him. He deserves the starting spot in front of Giroud now when you have to pick one of them.

They have the strongest squad in the world in terms of individual quality. They just need a more decent coach.

I think Wenger would do well. He hasn't had the best team in the English league for many seasons but has still managed to qualify Arsenal to the Champions League every single season since the 1998/99 season. That is stability and something that would do wonder for a national team.

If France doesn't win one of the next two World Cups, I will be shocked.

I won't, these golden generations don't guarantee silverware. They will probably win a Euro but a World Cup is tough, I wouldn't be surprised if they win one but I also wouldn't be shocked if they don't.

Teams like Italy, Germany and Brazil still have more pedigree

They have been the most impressive team in qualification. Still don't select a lot of quality players though like Sandro and Peres but they seem to have found a nice balance.

Kante is some dude who won the premier league last season with Leicester and might just win it again this season with Chelsea.

They have ridiculously talented players in almost all positions. Laporte, Zouma, Varane are 3 of the best young CBs in the world.

Davison Sanchez 20. Tottenham/Colombia is better then Zouma or Varane

But yea all the Monaco youth guys they had last season are nasty
