Inter defender Francesco Acerbi was virtually flawless at the heart of the defense in his team’s 2-1 Serie A win over Sassuolo yesterday.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who give the 34-year-old a 7/10 grade in the player ratings for the match.

Acerbi made his fourth start in all competitions for Inter against the Neroverdi, and showed once again that he is not struggling to adjust after joining from Lazio on the transfer deadline.

The 34-year-old hardly put a foot wrong and made no noticeable errors in his penalty area as he marshalled Sassuolo striker Andre Pinamonti and the entire Neroverdi attack well.

Grande Acerbi😎

Hate to admit it, but he has exceeded my expectations so far. When Inter "settled" for him I was full of dread, happy to be wrong currently.

Most of the player we get on loan are solid as long as we give them permanent contract. So, he will be fine this season, I guess and he will turn to a shit.

A low-key very solid signing so far. He seems less error-prone than other defenders to be fully honest. It's only the beginning of the season and our defence has been terrible apart of the last few matches, so it turns to be crucial that he was signed even though I was never a fan of his arrival. So this is an appreciation post for his performances so far.

Only issue with his transfer is the age. He's a solid defender but we shouldn't end up relying on him to keep the fort going.

He did decent as lcb despite not getting much aid from Dimarco. I still believe he would have issues against someone more direct than Candreva.

He is a short term signing, same can be said for Mkhi as well. And they are doing just fine. The latter wasnt as good in earlier matches but however lately he's had a great impact in our game.

Calming veteran presence it seems like. Bastoni has been up and down so far this season (he’s not being helped by being jerked around by Limone) but in a pinch, Acerbi can be solid. Kinda like Darmian.

ACERBI ‘MORE OF A MAN’ THAN HIS LAZIO CRITICS
Inter defender Francesco Acerbi hit back at those Lazio ultras who pushed him out of the club this summer. ‘I am more of a man than any of those who pointed the finger at me.’

The veteran had been with the Biancocelesti for many years, but his final two seasons were extraordinarily tense due to a group of ultras who repeatedly demanded his exit.

That situation reached a head when Milan scored a last-gasp winner at the Stadio Olimpico and Acerbi was caught on camera reacting with a bitter laugh, which some read to be almost enjoying his own team’s defeat.

“In the last seven or eight years, I have earned the respect of all my peers because I behave like a professional, on and off the field,” Acerbi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I was the one who wanted to leave Lazio. It was my decision. That incident against Milan really hurt me as a person, what happened was shameful. I stayed quiet, I have always stayed quiet, as I am far more of a man than those who pointed the finger at me saying I had done it on purpose.

“Insults via social media are par for the course now. The important thing is to keep going, nobody can stop because of that. It’s not a problem.”

Acerbi can't play as lcb. He may be left footed but he's slow as snail. He would get destroyed as lcb in our high defensive line. He can only play in the middle.

Yeah. What a surprise he struggled last night.

Objectively speaking he hasn't put a foot wrong today. Bit week going forward apart from 2 occasions but Acerbi isn't as bad as we make him out to be.

He was complete shit. Not his fault, he can't play that role.

Everyone apart of Inzaghi figured out that he doesn't work as LCB, but blame it on Bastoni's shit immunity so we had to see him in that position where he can't adjust. But either way, he wasn't as bad as he was against Viola for example. Skriniar was the worst defender to me last night, and by far.
