How was the mood here when Rafa was hired?

Hopefully he will be given full season before judged/fired.

to be honest, i thought it was quite possibly the worst candidate to hire.

but i was willing to give him a chance. but from late october, it was clear he needed the boot

As far as I know, Moratti was keen on Mihajlovic. It was his son who persisted and convinced MM to hire Gasperini.

It's true that Moratti wanted Miha, but i dont know if it was his son or Branca to make him change his mind...

Gasperini's understanding of football is on a different level than Leo's. How he adapted inside games with Genoa and always made life hard for opponents shows this. Wanting Leo to stay is beyond my understanding, he is tactically pedestrian. Of course it would be nice to have a coach who'd be strong motivator and good tactically, but with Gasperini we are atleast not drawing dead against strong opponents.

I think it is a bit premature to make statements like these. Process/methods are irrelevant. Results are. There is no point in having someone "smart" in football, if he cannot transmit those ideas AND get his team to play, perform and produce results. Football is much, much, much more than being a tactical genius and/or making expert tactical changes.

Only if Gasperini can achieve good results, then we can make broad statements like yours.
Cause frankly, everybody preferred 70% wins (Leo/not "football-smart") to ~40% wins (Rafa/"football-smart").

with his preference for Milito over Pazzini even though Milito is practically crippled, I doubt that Gasp knows anything about football.

N4L, I agree 100%. Being tactically intelligent is not enough. I'm not at all convinced that Gasperini will make it here. Still, I have to say I felt very bad about having a coach who is tactically lost in big games. Gasperini, then again, might not have the respect of our changing room, which is just as bad. He also might not have the common sense to ditch his 3-4-3 when required, we will see about that. I'll of course give him a chance, but I understand it could turn out either way. If Leo and Gasp both guided us once through 2011-2012, it might very well be that Leo would be better of the two. Yet I'm happy he is out. With him I think we would have been like Tottenham. Motivated, attacking and fun to watch, but also very fragile and unorganized and thus losing all the big games.

Gasperini, just like Alvarez, Poli, Castaignos, Jonathan and Zarate, is a gamble. My feelings towards starting season are mixed. I'm at the same time excited and scared.

Fact is he has to adjust to the team like Mourinho and Leo did and were sucessful. What he's doing is making the team adjust to him like Rafa and we all know how he ended.

Thats the bottom line coz..

Mou tried to get the team to adjust to his 4-3-3 for the first half of his first season as well.

I am happy with the insistence on 3-4-3 but for now I am giving him time.

I wonder when was the last time a top European team won their domestic league using 3-4-3 formation? As for in Europe and CL, let’s not even get started…. I’d say at most such formation considering our current players may take us far in the Europa league. Other than that we will get raped out in Europe and when faced again big calcio sides – especially when under counter attack.

When comparing Gasperini to Rafa, Leo & Mou, we need to keep in mind that:

Mourinho's Squad>Leo's Squad>Rafa's Squad>Gasp's Squad

&

Gasp opposition in Serie A>Leo's>Rafa's>Mourinho's

Maybe. Though Eto's gone, some of our key old players have aged an extra year and the competition has defiantly gotten stronger
