So, Eriksen's wages will be payed by Uefa right? So we are actually saving money on Calhanoglu as his replacement. I am also not happy with this deal, but he's the best and the only free option out there. He also had 10 assists, which is better than any of our mids this season.

27yo player, established international, available for free - I wonder why there doesn't seem to be any race to sign him? Oh yeah, maybe because he's overrated as fuck. Welcome.

How can one be overrated when they're not even rated.

Alright, here are some nuanced thoughts on this transfer:

I don't like Calhanoglu as a player, especially in a 3-5-2 system. A lot of people have complained about Eriksen's performances for Inter. I've heard arguments such as "he doesn't tackle well enough," "he's lackidasical," and "he's too slow to be a B2B midfielder." We signed Eriksen because he's a great player who we then forced upon a manager who did not want him, who used him to only a fraction of his abilities as he did not fit the system. Signing Calhanoglu to play as a central midfielder for Inzaghi will essentially be making the same mistake twice, except Calhanoglu never has been (and never will be) a great player.

I can't think of a single player that Inzaghi used at Lazio who has a similar skillset to Calhanoglu. SMS is a physical tank who provides great contributions on both ends of the pitch. Lucas is more of a Brozovic-type player. Luis Alberto is infinitely faster and a much better scorer. I don't know what you're hoping to get out of this transfer, other than a player who will have to completely alter their style of play to not be a detriment to the team.

There are only two benefits of this transfer. The first is the cost. Yes, the reported wages are outrageous. But this club is a sinking ship financially and cannot afford to pay transfer fees to acquire players. Paying a small wage premium (1-2M per season) to avoid a large expenditure in transfer fee (even 10-15M) is about the only type of move we can afford to make at this juncture, given that the Zhang family is crying poor/have probably committed to cutting costs formally through OakTree. The second benefit is set pieces. With Eriksen's career possibly over, and 2021-22 season surely in jeopardy, Calhanoglu would easily become the best set piece taker on this team. His free kick rates have gone down since joining Milan but he's still excellent. He also takes a great corner.

Ultimately this is the type of transfer I expected from Marotta. For weeks I've been saying that we are not going to spend a single Euro on incoming transfer fees this summer. While I'm being hyperbolic it appears I might not end up being far off in my estimate.

Honestly, when I think of Calhanoglu, I think of someone who left Zlatan screaming "I don't fucking understand you" repeatedly at him.

Milan News journalist and Tuttosport collaborator Pietro Mazzara cites Inter with "very advanced" contacts for Hakan Çalhanoğlu. Beppe Marotta identified the Turk as a replacement for Christian Eriksen.

Awful player, regressed, selfish , weak mentality, is funny that he's still considered a free kick specialist, he is absolutely not. Zlatan screamed at him, HE FOLLOWED by UNFOLLOWING ZLATAN in instagram, banned milanisti on twitter etc, can you imagine his reaction when mad Lukaku screams at him, like 10x a match?

5M a year? . He will ruin our salary hierarchy when the squad realizes how fkn shit and useless he is.

after Darmian and Young, who were postive surprises, I think its better to be neutral at first about this thing. The only guy we were right that will sucks was Kolarov.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Inter's offer for Hakan Çalhanoğlu is €4.5M and €1M in contractual bonuses. Simone Inzaghi has already given the go-ahead for signing

He's an old fashioned acm right? Meaning a player that won't fit with our formation/style of play.

Did anyone report that Inzaghi wants him at Inter yet? That will be a lie, just like for everyone else that the club considered deadweight a month ago but now wants to extend because they can't sign new players on a transfer fee.

Calhanoglu will be forced upon Inzaghi.

Not fascinated about this signing if it goes through. But I think Hakan could be even better at Inter compared to what he has shown at Milan. At Inter, the team is like, set up, leaders all over the place, a carry players carrying the burden. Hakan can just slot in and do his thing. Of course he needs to be two-way player at Inter, at least more compared to Milan but maybe he can do it?

Anyway, despite Di Marzio milking this "cock", I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up signing with Milan after all.

He's an hardworking attacking CM if you really want to fit him in the stereotypes, he doesn't have the creativity and flair to be called old fashioned CAM.

Eriksen’s natural replacement I guess. Not really enthused as Hakan never impresses me when I’ve watched him. We’ll see what happens.
