What a fucking stinker by Hakan. Specially in the latter part of the first half, he lost probably every ball he touched. I guess he just needs to adapt to the team but we can't have such performances anymore.

What I noticed in his game compared to Eriksen how he plays the contact game so differently, like normal players. Not like Eriksen who avoids every contact.

He was fine. Not great not terrible.

It's our midfield that was unequipped to play against Verona who aimed to forced a lot of 50-50 situations and won most of them thanks to their physicality and numbers. Conceding early goal due to individual error didn't help either.

You can clearly see many plays where Verona's midfield just headed the ball around 3-4 times and we couldn't do anything. Eriksen would suffer 3 times more in this kind of games. He's also not tactically adaptable to playing mezzala.

Verona's gameplan came with a trade off, they ran out of gas in the 2nd half and when we threw in Vidal, Vecino and Correa i.e. big players, their advantages disappeared.

Our midfield of course still have a lot to work on, we shouldn't be so disconnected when we had the ball under our feet, should flow the ball better, should tactically position themselves better, etc... If we won't have been there yet by November, I will be worried, but for now, I think it was a slightly positive display by Hakan.

Eriksen also had one assist last season, and he played quite a bit, he was our set piece taker whenever he was on pitch. The point is both of them have their issues, although I think hakan despite hot and cold moments will definitely be much more useful to us this season, at least just in terms of sheer numbers and contributions to goals.

You can't compare last season and this season as our gameplan is entirely different. For Conte wingbacks are a lot more important than midfielders while for Inzaghi is vice versa. So in terms of numbers and contributions to goals i expect a bigger contribution from the midfielders than the wingbacks this season.

Stats judge eriksen harshly to be honest. Bear in mind he was playing deep for us and often created opportunities where other people assisted.

He did well for us in the second half of the season and I think he could have been really class this year under Inzaghi. Though an interesting question is whether he would play instead of Sensi in the previous formation or as part of a midfield 3

But didn't we play possession football with conte, especially when eriksen first came here. He was actually being played closer to forwards, that was his initial role. And then we kinda sucked, so we reverted to counterattacking football. Maybe i m the only one here who watches all the games.

Eriksen was forced to play mezzala because he couldn't interpret the advanced CM role, he had to be a CAM which as many consider is a dying position. And that CAM space was occupied by Lukaku under Conte's 352.

Hakan also drops deep and help the defense and he does that naturally which can't be said about Eriksen.

The only argument for Eriksen is if he's good enough as CAM to make Inzaghi change the tactics and play with one? But I guess we'll never find out.

Finally, something we can agree on, everyone was terrible on that position, but it's not cuz of the formation but players who were the 1. And guess who was our only natural 1 during that time.

This. Hakan also dropped quite deep yesterday just like Eriksen did. It's just that his position after buildup is not that double-regista.

Anyway, there are positives in Hakan compared to Eriksen, ability to physical game is one. Hopefully he gets his shit together with the passes because we cannot afford losing the ball like what happened yesterday specially in the first half. Takes too much energy from the team if we keep losing balls like that every match.
