We are not using this guy correctly, just like we didn't use Eriksen correctly at first; either we put 1 more midfield so his defensive burden lowers and he will have one more guy to play possession with, else we need to treat him as a player that plays at the final third. I guess we have a third option is hope he learns the new role like Eriksen did.

I don't want to cut him any slack cos he's on a decent salary. But it seems like both Eriksen and Hakan had suffered from this "3rd midfield" syndrome cos Barella and Brozovic are so imposing.

Honestly other than Pessina (which will cost a fortune), I don't see anyone being able to command that position comfortably.

Like Correa for Dzeko, he needs to just play as a placeholder for Vidal who comes in at hour mark. Those vets can start matches week in week out, at least not 2x week so we need these placeholder players.

He thinks he's a more capable player than he actually is. Too many ambitious shots from long range. His passes are intended to stretch the pitch horizontally but are misplaced. He needs to rely on Perisic's overlapping runs more and stop trying to be spectacular.

I'm glad Marotta only gave him three years instead of five.
