In order to make sure, Zhang doesn't change his mind before the project reaches its end, he required a term that obliges Inter to pay compensation regardless of who initiates the resignation. By doing so, he wanted to make sure Zhang doesn't have an incentive to sell players whom Conte considered as parts of his project. Again, this is only an assumption.

I think even if he refused to take the compensation, FIFers wouldn't regard him as LGI figure either.

In bold part, if you are talking about Mourinho, then he had a guaranteed job at Real awaiting him. Not downgrading his goodwill, but probably he made that gesture to kind of compensate the decision to leave so unexpectedly, because fans would dislike him too otherwise. Also, for me it's unfair to compare Mourinho and Conte in what to demand from them in terms of bonds with Inter. The credit is exclusive for Hector Cuper. Inter had problems in defensive line with Frey, Capitano, Cordoba, Blanc and Algerian left-back Ferrari. The midfield was a disaster with Seedorf, Jugovic, Brocchi, Dalmat and Di Biagio. On the striking line Vieri had no partner Recoba failed the penalty shoot out against Helsingborg and must recalled back the failure against Deportivo Alaves with Cosmin Contra and Javi Moreno.

Cuper rebuild a team without soul, Toldo was 30-yr-old in clear decline during his final season with Fiorentina, Capitano was in his final seasons as a decent right back, so, in decline too. Also, Materazzi was injured since Perugia, Cordoba played a decent season but he was short and weak against Adriano, Mutu, Gilardino, Delvecchio, Batistuta.
