Hernan Crespo is enjoying his time in
Genoa following his summer move there from
Inter.
Goal.com caught up with the Argentine hitman for a 360 degree interview, in which he spoke about his ambitions with the Grifoni, the showdown between former side Inter and Barcelona in the Champions League, as well as the Adrian Mutu - Chelsea compensation battle.
There has been much hype surrounding the big game between the Nerazzurri and Barca, and Crespo believes the recent squabbles between the Inter fans and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sparked off by the striker.
"I was expecting friction between Ibrahimovic and the Inter fans," Crespo told
Goal.com
"I heard what Ibrahimovic said, and I know the Inter fans, so all this does not surprise me."
The game is being billed as the biggest of the round. The former Nerazzurro is leaning towards Inter, hoping they can go all the way to lift the trophy for the first time since 1965.
"I think it doesn't matter who wins as both teams will qualify for the next round," he asserted. "It's hard to say who will end up winning it, but I obviously hope Inter will. I have always had a special relationship with the clubs and fans."
Crespo left Inter behind for the lure of Genoa, who signed him on a free transfer.
The hitman was wanted by a number of top sides, but his decision to join the Rossoblu is paying dividends as they are joint top of the table.
"I don't think [Genoa] need to make any jump in quality. In fact, we must keep our feet on the ground," added the former Parma striker.
"My objective is to play regularly, and with consistency."
Crespo's former club, Chelsea, have been entangled in the battle with his ex-Blues team-mate Adrian Mutu over the €17 million compensation the Romanian was ordered to pay.
FIFA's decision was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, despite Mutu's appeal. The Genoa striker has given his views on the delicate situation.
"I don't really know the case that well and so it's hard to make a judgement, but what I feel is that it's not just a question of money," added Crespo.
"I know [Chelsea owner Roman] Abramovich well and I have an excellent relationship with him. I had to return to Italy twice for my own reasons and when I asked him he understood my needs and he did not ask money from Milan or Inter.
"I think that there is something more than just money about this. I think it's more a question of respect, but, like I said, I don't know all the details, and so I cannot comment further."
