Talk about the shrewd running of a football club!

The always excellent Calcio e Finanza took a dip into Genoa's accounts today, and out of the many interesting revelations that are made, one in particular stands out: the Grifone has sold players to both Milanese sides for a total value of 234 million, and profits of 158m.

From the sales of Diego Milito (profits of €18.5m) and Thiago Motta (€10m) to Marco Borriello (€9.1m)and Stefano El Shaarawy (€20m), the Genoese side have made a habit out of keeping themselves afloat (and so much more) by discovering talent and selling it on to their Lombard neighbours.

those valuations arent fair.

Longo and Kucka and Viviano were at half the book price, they've calculated the whole value of the player. So we only paid 8 mil for half of Kucka, 7m for half of Longo, and 5m for half of Viviano.

2mil was too much for Longo, let alone 7 :serious: #hindsight

the logno valuation was never cash. We actually swapped half of Longo for half of Kucka + 500k. There's a fair question on why Kucka devalued so quickly, in effect, and the inflated value of longo reflects our desire not to take a bigger book loss on Kucka.

we signed him on co-ownership and he was meant to come to Inter to play that season, but he wrecked his knee if I remember correctly so it was decided to leave him at Genoa to recuperate. IIRC we actually swapped something like Viviano+3m for Kucka so even those values are probably a little bit inflated anyway.

It was something like 3.5m + 50% of Viviano for 50% of Kucka. Then we did 2m + 50% of Kucka for 50% of Longo.

We purchased 50% of Viviano for like 4.5m, so Kucka was rated around 16m for 100% since we paid 3.5m + 50% of Viviano (4.5m) for 50% of him. 50% of Kucka must have devalued (injury) and was no longer worth 8m at the time of the Longo deal. It was worth closer to 5m. So 2m + 50% of Kucka (5m) for 50% of Longo gives Longo the full valuation of 14m.

It is much easier for mid table teams to give playing time to younger players as:
a. they really don't have that many options;
b. they will not be most of the times battling for CL/EL places or against relegation.
