Well, it was an interesting event for sure. Would've been nice to see a live victory in Dubai, but it wasn't a disaster either.
I disagree with saying that the mentality of champions is to win everything. It is not realistic for any team to achieve 100% or even 80% victory over a long period of time. Champions know how to balance their wins/losses. We used to win the unimportant games and lose all the crucial games in the past 10 years... I'm glad that's something we got past
The match itself was good, but what hurt us was that we didn't really want to win. We always say the only team that can beat Inter is Inter, and that was evident. Internacional on the other hand REALLY wanted to win... they were fighting for it every second, and they deserved both their goals. Inter didn't really "fight". We tried 3 different strategies throughout the game, so it was Mancini's chance to play with tactics and try out different player combinations (Burdisso/Bolzoni/Pele/Balotelli, and unfortunately Pele/Ibra/Crespo which really doesn't work). I've tactically learned and can confirm that if we lose one more player in midfield, we're not going to win any other game in Serie A... I guess that was always positive except that we now have actual confirmation. I see Chivu in midfield for Siena, and Crespo won't be starting for a while.
From a players' perspective, they were obviously not giving it 100%, but that's really good. I would be really disappointed to have Ibra or JZ injured to gain the 'prestige' of the Dubai Cup
. I was so worried about injuries that I was glad the game ended the way it did, even with a loss, because our opponents were REALLY rough, and the ref was an idiot.
All in all a good experience, but such is every chance to see the team live. I'm glad the team took their second game more seriously than the first so that we have a better understanding of our strategic position. I expect a new midfielder to come on board really soon now.
Inter club Dubai has been announced now on inter.it. I have some contacts, but if anyone has any info about it please let me know.
P.S. (A big one, for Wittman/VLE) This is how I see the importance of achievable trophies for Italian Teams:
1- UEFA CL
2- Scudetto
3- UEFA Cup
4- UEFA Super Cup
5- Coppa Italia
6- FIFA CWC
7- Intercontinental Cup (down since it was canceled)
8- UEFA Cup Winner's Cup (defunct)
9- UEFA Intertoto Cup
10- Supercoppa Italia
11- Serie B
?? (not on the list) - Dubai Cup (for now... I have a feeling this will go up in a few years)
I'm not putting down CWC because Milan got it, but it's historically an unimportant event which just occured 4 times as a replacement for the IC. FIFA are trying to make it important but failing miserably so far. The list itself is dynamic, as some events overlap or are prerequisites for others...
the world of football is not linear. For example, not winning anything and playing in Serie A is better than playing in Serie B and winning. Coppa Italia is the 2nd most imporant event in Italy, but Serie A more than 10 times more prestigious/important. etc.
From the reactions of some Milan fans, this is the list:
1- FIFA Club WORLD CUP OMG Campioni DEL
MONDO FORZA SIAMO NOI OMG CAMPIONI
2- CHAMPIONS LEAGUE EUROPA CAMPIONI OMG OMG
Lega dei CAMPIONI [Orgasm]
3- ... and nothing else matters
Let's try and keep things in perspective
