Was debating if Inter should do major subs for this money grab. However, given that Inter next match is away at Venezia, followed by Bologna and then Empoli guess starting the strongest side is copasetic. Forza Inter.

There will inevitably be changes, as a win here generates a further game to be played at full strength, so it will be imperative to balance out the physical condition of the team.

I want to see heavy rotation here. I know the management desperately want that prize money, but we have to be conservative with each players minutes— Frattesi, Taremi, Asllani should all 100% start as should Darmian and Acerbi if they are available. Josep Martinez should play too because he needs reps if we actually have any hopes of developing him.

There's quite a lot of money on the line here. We need to go for it at least partially. Some rotation ok but not too much, if we are net zero next window this will make a big impact

Yeah, the unsavory truth is that winning two games in the next four days in Saudi is way more lucrative than winning the Coppa Italia would be, even if the Coppa is a more "meaningful" tournament (let the quotes speak for themselves). A year ago I was firmly in the "fuck this and get out ASAP" camp and in a perfect world I still would be, but this would be some nice extra cash in our coffers, and we have a week off until the next game even if we win on Thursday and play on the following Monday.

Winning this cup is mandatory and I'll give 3 reasons for it.

1. First of all defeating Atalanta , we would stamp our authority to them and the rest and show that this is still our era, our year and we will proceed taking the scudetto too after this, no matter how good you have become.

2. Defeating Motta/Sergio in the final. Same reason as first. We would have a chance for a rematch vs Motta and correct our derby mistakes and inflict disappointment to all of Rube mafia and Agnelli. To lose vs Conceicao on his 2nd match in charge is absolutely unthinkable tragedy. Have to win.

3. No one has won 4 on the bounce. Lets be that team and also collect a nice trophy and 8M€ .

So the ball is in Simone's court. If he rotates too much there's dangers. This Atalanta side has to be played with our best men.

According to this logic, FIFA Club World Cup is also a very important tournament as it brings a lot of money but i doubt anyone sees it that way.

I hate the notion we judge every tournament solely based on the income that brings to the club. I am aware i probably sound grumpy and old school but we have lost the true meaning of football if money is the only thing that matters.

Coppa Italia will always be more important to me than this joke that SuperCoppa has become. SuperCoppa had its meaning when it was played before the start of the season between league winner and cup winner. It was the unofficial start of the season and a game to look forward to. But now it has become a joke. SuperCoppa was supposed to be about the previous season and now they play it in January. Make it make sense. This isn't a Serie A trend of course. What SuperCups have become now is basically western leagues whoring themselves to the Arab nations to earn more money to cover their massive expenses. They even made it a mini tournament to make it a worthy ivestment for the hosts.

So personally i couldn't care less about SuperCoppa. Great for clubs coffers but as a fan i am totally indifferent about that tournament.

I wanted to post this on the Coppa thread as there were people arguing SuperCoppa was more prestigious than Coppa but i let it go. But you mentioned it again so i couldn't help myself. :D

I believe the money last year was roughly $9m to the winners, $5.5m to the runners-up and $2m to the beaten semi-finalists. Winning the Coppa Italia brings roughly €5m euros by comparison, not including gate receipts from earlier rounds.

While the Supercoppa is the least important of the tournaments Inter are involved in, it's genuinely lucrative for what's involved and as they're travelling all that distance anyway then they might as well do their best to win it again. Some minor rotation for Atalanta and the same in the final if they progress.

World club is hugely important for us. As with the supercup, that could fund our transfer window this season - it's like 40-100mil prize I think, and the winner is likely to take home more than they get for winning the CL. I know the prestige of the tournament isnt there, but that much money on the line will make people take it seriously

World club is going to be the difference between improving the team this summer or just critical signings only

I agree that this Supercoppa is a joke with timing and place. It also ruined my January trip to Milano cause this weekend was supposed to be Serie A game vs Bologna.

But I honestly still want a trophy. 8M or not. I don't care how meaningful it is. If we can get trophy by winning two games let's get a trophy while we are already there. I also think previous Supercoppa wins were boost to rest of our season. Zielinski was talking recently how he wants his first trophy with Inter and Supercoppa is a good start. For sure, let's be smart about this and don't overextend some starters but as @Jnr said, with his few points, by winning this we can feel more optimistic about many things for the rest of the season and also not give additional boost to our rivals.

So BBilan and Atalanta have a chance to grab that 8M prize by winning nothing in Italy last season? Fuck this new format.
Would be funny if Atalanta manage to win it, their first Supercoppa trophy, but without a League or a Coppa trophy.

Well said @Il Drago

Trophies itselves should be the target, not money involved winning them. For club that's the main point in these tournaments like Super Coppa and Club World Cup. But for the team, these are just games and they want to win games and win trophies, that's why they're doing this (well, I guess most, but some are in it mostly for the money and not for the football). And it's not like players are seeing any sizeable portiong of any winnings in their bank accounts anyway.

Stamping the authority is maybe the main goal for me in this one, apart from winning a trophy obviously. Money is nice too. Losing to Atalanta wouldn't be the end of the world by any means. But if we win, make sure to win the final aswell and can't see why we absolutely wouldn't do it. Losing to final to Milan/Juve would sting way more than losing to Atalanta now.
