Lucio's performances didn't start to dip until a year later, and even then he was a great defender. Chivu, Deki and even to a degree Zanetti were much less important to us in the starting XI. Not mention Pandev in the second half of the season.
Lucio was one of the main reasons we won the treble that year, and delivered arguably one of the greatest defensive seasons we've seen from any one defender in over a decade to that point, and until now even.
I strongly disagree with that, he was strong and had some great tackles, but he also made attacking runs that left big holes in defence and made a lot of timing mistakes. I vividly remember how many times I got angry at him and was annoyed, good thing we had Cambiasso and Zanetti, we must not forget their importance for our defensive performances.
I'm not saying he was bad, what I am saying is that Lucio was already in a decline, same with Julio Cesar and same with Chivu. You can still be a class player while declining, but I wouldn't put him on the list of Inter's best CBs ever or anything like that. He was important, but I'd say it was Samuel the one that shined under Mourinho.
