And to think some people want to see Pavard play in the middle LOL
what important for the middle CB is ability to read game and control both side of the defense and pavard is normally calm and has good ball distribution. he can do a decent job there if we don’t have de vrij or acerbi. he is quick too so that can cover a lot of situation. not all team plays with 6 2’ feet forwards

height is just a bonus. not a must. even our keeper is not exactly tall. for a team that has history of short defender like cordoba and cannavaro, i thought we don’t have to argue about heights

So most of FIF wanted to rest key players. We did and as expected, our quality dropped. We complain.

Half of FIF said they were okay with a draw against a quality side. We won. We complain.

FIF wants Inzaghi to play the younger players more. He does. Asllani fucks up leading to their lone goal. We complain.

A clear and dangerous foul happens in the penalty box. After looking at the replays, the ref gives a legitimate penalty (as defined in 2024). We complain.

Good night! 😇

Just finished watching the match. Beautiful first goal from Asllaini. The we were awarded was a complete joke, but whatever. Solid, cagey win. Scudetto is just about locked up now. If we beat Bologna it will be over.
I’m not opposed to resting the stars against Bologna. Our lead is almost insurmountable. Especially against these Juve and Milan sides. There’s no conceivable way I see them posing any issues the rest of the way.

Anyway rough 2nd half but Genoa is a solid side under Gilardino. They didn’t lay down.

It was an ugly game by our standards and xG still says 2.9-1.1 in our favor, just to put some perspective. I'm rewatching the 2nd half right now, and Genoa had a decent spell of possession ~65-73 minutes, but not long after we brought on Bisseck and cleaned up our aerial problems (Retegui still did get a good header chance shortly after, but this was closer to the penalty spot; they couldn't use the deep cross on the posts as much once we had Acerbi and Bisseck on), they didn't do much to create.

It's really standing out to me how much defensive work Barella was putting in, and Asllani had a far more annoying turnover later on in the game ~70' that eventually went out for a corner where he got onto the ball and decided to run into space, probably trying to find a play on the ball instead of clearing it...like, I get it, there were no available passing options when he got on the ball to begin with, but he doesn't have the speed to have gotten into that pocket of space while being closed down from multiple angles, it was way too risky. Boot it forward and see if Lautaro can run onto it or something, but anything other than what he did. The first turnover, as I wrote earlier, was a combination play gone wrong, which happens; this one was a flat out wrong decision.

Thing is will you put cordoba and cannavaro as the mid CB?

cannavaro would be great in the middle for his defensive reading and organizations. cordoba is more suited to left CB.

That is some wishful thinking, you make me doubt myself, but I am pretty sure Cannavaro failed pretty hard in a 3 men system in the past.
I am also pretty sure Cordoba is a right footed player.

I am regretting of engaging this conversation.

Genoa were giving us all kinds of problems aerially. It's no wonder that Inzaghi brought on Bisseck (6'5") and Acerbi (6'4") to replace Pavard (6'1") and slide Augusto wider and replaced Dimarco (5'9"). This game called for height, and we had some to work with. I imagine Dumfries would've remained out as well if he wasn't booked, but it was also 2-0 and Inzaghi probably felt ok with his decision at the time to bring on Darmian.

They where given us problems because we didn’t play all that well for the majority of the match, with several players low on energy and those we didn’t play up to usual pace. You could clearly see in the short moment we played near standards they hardly could get near the ball, they where physical dominated, the ball was easily plucked from them and if we simply had taken advantage of our massive sitters with Barella etc. we would not have this debate. After their equaliser we got nervous and started making tons of amateur mistakes and could hardly get three consecutive passes in a row and it wasn’t because we didn’t have the space for it. Also there was just lack of movement in large part of the game largely caused by low energy level, or that is my guess at least especially as some of our lads could hardly run back the last 10min, it is no wonder that when you try to drag down the speed you can invite a team like that in and succeed with their tactics and play more on their premises.

It's possible to do Pavard middle cb and Bissek in Pavard place, as Bissek 1'93 compensates Pavard size. That can be useful for opponents who are sitting back and not attacking at all & we need a fast goal/goals.

We already got the explanation why the atmosphere was odd, apparently fractions of CN was boycotting the game, because they are unhappy they aren’t allowed to let their disgusting views being on public display at the games.

I think that in 3 matches if the gap remains at 15 points, we can celebrate the victory in the Seria A early.
