With CoVid-19 likely to continue the disruption of our domestic games I believe the EL might be the only games we play in the near future and this therefore may be our only chance of winning something this season.However the draw has not been kind to us.Getafe are fighting for a UCL spot in La Liga and are a very frustrating team to play against.

We have won only once in our last 12 games against Spanish opposition - the 3-1 win at home to Barca way back in 2010. [D4 L7].Deportivo Alaves,Villarreal,Valencia and Barcelona have all eliminated us from Europe in the last 20 years whilst we have eliminated the latter two also.

Getafe have never played an Italian team in Europe in their history.

We have never progressed past the EL Round of 16 in this tournaments current form.We have lost at this stage of the competition to Spurs,Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.We did play a UEFA Cup qf way back in 2004 when we were eliminated by Marseille iirc.

Whilst a number of us mock Conte for his poor European record he does have a pretty decent record in the EL.He has only lost 1 game in 10 EL games - the defeat away to Benfica in the semi-finals with Juventus.


I hope the disruption in our season is not a negative and we go all in for the EL playing a full strength team here and winning this thing because atleast on paper we have one of,if not the,strongest team in the EL.

If we want to have any chance going far in this tournament Conte needs to drop back 3. It was working at the start but it hasn't been working for a while. Perhaps it could work again with different players but we don't have them so Conte needs to adjust.

Wonder if this will be played at a neutral venue outside of Otaly. Spain has had an increase in cases as well so both places are in a similar boat.
