Result as expected....but nobody should be interested in the results, nor the individual players. My takeaways:

1) Rafa better be prepared to revert to Real's old system if his 4-4-2 experiment doesn't really work out. It will be very interesting to see if he can do the smart and right thing *IF* his setup isn't working.

2) Pre-season should be all about experimentation; testing out tactical setups, different phases of play, e.t.c. For example, today was very obvious Real were experimenting a 4-4-2 with Bale as a forward. They were also testing out different attacking strategies, like playing a longer ground passes from deep midfield, to the feet of the forwards who are checking into the space between DM and CBs (so they can turn). They also did a variation where the forwards moved wide to triple overload the wing (FW, winger, WB). It gave our defenders issues in terms of marking assignments and who should cover who, particularly since our 4-3-1-2 is so narrow, that the LM/RM doesn't help the WB until it's too late (if at all).

I literally have no clue what WE were testing out, other than aligning ourselves on the field in a 4-3-1-2. Maybe someone can help me with what patterns we were trying to execute offensively because I really didn't see any. Actually, scratch that. I did see patterns, just they seemed to be more individual based than a team tactic. For example, whenever we got the ball from Real in our defensive third, the attack was usually led by a midfielder running with the ball, the 2 forwards about 20 yards ahead, both running in a straight line towards goal and in line with Real's CBs, and one WB supporting the midfielder with the ball. Those 4 will try something, usually midfielder to WB, who then crosses. If they manage to hold the ball, then the other mids come up plus the other WB. Then we play some possession, then try to cross, or if that's being blocked, pass back inside then try to play a one-two through the middle.

Kova makes a few deep runs per game, then passes wide for the WB to cross, or tries to play a one-two through the middle.

Gaps between our lines are awful, especially on transition. When transitioning to offense, all the CMs want to stay parallel or behind the ball to receive a back pass or a square pass. That, plus our FWs being 20+ yards away then causes the CM who has the ball to dribble up without much support other than a WB.

Our pace is pedantic at best. It takes too long for the players to support in offense and defense. We literally have to be able to hold the ball for 15-20sec to start getting support from the mids. Then another 15-20 sec before the other WB and the CB line move up to support. It's ridiculous. This is causing all the gaps between our lines.

All hating aside and in total seriousness, Mancini and staff need to get to work and stop fucking around. Better players make your system better. They don't MAKE your system.

Mancini:

"It's clear that the results are not positive at the moment. But the important thing is to see the performances, and in every game we have improved as a team.

Considering that we got 3 goals from Stuttgarter kickers, we should loose 6-0 against Real and Bayern. So, he is right, there is a improve.

I tip my hat to those chinese fans for being minority in such circumstances, forbearing in supporting and watching although they could not be heartened anymore by our result and performance. Btw, where is the drummer boy:D?

I think our system will be everyone defend and hook long balls to the 6 foot tall Jovetic and pray he creates something for Icardi.

That will be our pattern.

The reason why we haven't seen that pattern as of yet is because there is no one for us to send long passes to.

As I mentioned to fitzhole during the weekend, Mancini's idea of tactics is to put players into a formation and just have them run around in their little zones and do what comes naturally to them, which in most cases, is shit. I see zero evidence of specific, pre-determined and drilled instructions.

Exactly, we beat Carpi 3-1 which is the type of team we actually need to beat, then lost to milan 0-1 with a fortunate goal when they were playing a mostly full team and us with reserves and youths. It's only pre season and certain players are all ready being given death sentences on FIF.

And yet in this much-hyped promotional tour we failed to register a single goal. By my count, we had 1 shot on target in 3 games. One.. We might have had one or two more in the Bayern match, but I was too busy falling asleep from our primitive football. Obviously people tend to overreact or curse players for humours sake, especially during matches. But how many of these players are even new? Kondogbia? Montoya? Murillo? From what I can tell, the players given the 'FIF death sentence' are the same fucking cunts, doing the same fucking shit for years and years now. Ranocchia, Juan, Santon getting skinned time and time again. Palacio running and running to nowhere in particular. Hernanes dribbling in slow-motion then falling over and losing possession. Nagatomo doing the Nagatomo Special where he has the ball on his right foot, then switches to his left and crosses to no one. Guarin being Guarin - putting the ball into row Z from 40m out. Mancini with some truly nonsensical tactics, such as playing a high line with slow defenders against Ronaldo and Bale  and switching to a 352 with Brozovic as a WB etc etc. The list goes on.

No one is complaining that we lost while trying new tactics, saw some improvement or at least the fucking slightest hint of some kind of ideas in development, even in the earliest stages. People are complaining that it's the same shit from the same people, over and over, with no hint of progress. Pre-season or not.

Honestly not factoring in the score.

I think that first half was one of the best half's of football i have seen form inter in the last 6-8 months.

They were so competitive and not sitting back and just putting men behind the ball they actually were very hungry.

If we can keep that sort of teamwork up throughout the season with some conviction up front we will be a very very competitive side.

Same. The first half was actually good in that sense and that's even thinking that Brozovic was having a bad day and Hernanes is really not fit...

handa - good not great
jj - not bad when in position, but often not in position. in no man's land on 2nd goal.
rano - mostly ok but terrible marking on the 2nd goal.
murillo - main culprit for the 1st goal, but otherwise a good showing.
montoya - decent
kovacic - good not great. a few nice passes, and a few sloppy passes. his stupid flashy backheel initiated their 2nd goal.
kdog - has a presence on the field, but has to cut out some of the sloppy passes. looks nervous.
icardi - fighting for scraps. link up not bad.
palacio - invisible
hernanes - mediocre
brozo - fluctuating between mediocre and average

subs:

guarin - didn't we sell this clown to besiktas?

Overall, there is a severe lack of creativity in the final third. too much pressure on palacio and hernanes, who were bad. maybe jovetic coming and kovacic moving to CM would make it better. it's clear mancini is sorely missing an ibra or aguero to do all the offensive work for him.

These preseason tournaments... have been a disaster so far, and the players confidence at a all time low.

Good point... I said it before, mancio needs Ibra type of player/s. anything less we are not going forward.

Let Mancio build our team now and he clearly attract good players like Kondogbia and Jovetic, but his system are too depend on invidiual skill ala Zlatan, Aguero, Silva, Maicon... I pray that he can give us CL next year and then we get Simeone, Klopp...

Long until our next preseason match? Surely Jovetic will start the match
