Here are the average rating and statistics of Inter team during September 2012. All the tables below reflect the number per match played.

Team Statistic

Below is the average team stat per match played.

Comment :

Here you can see that Inter has some works to do especially in patience, creativity, and discpline. The lack of patience and creativity leaves the player no choice but to shot from long distance. Inter has 14.33 shot per game, but only 37.21 % of them destine between the post and sadly only 1.8 goal per game. Also, the rate of 2.17 yellow cards per game is quite intriguing too despite the defence is already great.

Players Statistics

Next are the tables of player statistics.

Note :

Mat : match

Rat : rating

YC : yellow card

RC : red card

Con : conceded

Sv : save

Sh : shot

SOG : shot on goal

Go : goal

Ass : assist

Off : offside

FS : foul suffered

FC : foul commited

*Every parameter is divided by the amount of minutes played. For example, Guarin featured in all Inter matches (6 games), but he didn’t play for full time in every game. His total playing time is 366 minutes which means he has played 4.07 matches instead of 6 matches. He has already collected 4 yellow cards so, it means he drawns 0.98 yellow card per match instead of 0.67 yellow card per match.

**The only exception is average rating which divides the total rating by the number of games. It is simply because if any player gets the rating of 6 in 45 minutes, it would mean he will get average rating of 12 which is impossible.

And here is the current ranking of the player performance :

Some notable statistics:

-Julio Cesar who ? The Brazillian sure has place in every Interisti as he had guarded the goal with excellent quality. But, it will serve only as good memory as the replacement is nothing short of quality. The Slovenian safe hand ensures has produced 3.4 saves per match (17 saves total) and some of them are world class save. Congratulation as the best performer for September month. Well, we expect nothing less from the best Serie-A goalkeeper in 2 years in row.

-Il Capitano has 5.9 average rating and in his advanced years, he still collects 360 minutes of playing time. Still produce some trademark run, miraculously surging through the players who is 1 decade younger. Only 1 thing to watch out, it must be admitted that he did more and more mistakes (especially mispass) in every game.

-Ranocchia has amassed 450 minutes or 5 games which is the most minutes among the squad. His average rating is nothing less but great, 6.25. Such statistic proves how much is the importance of The Frog in heart of Inter defence and how far he has developed from last season.

-It seems Pereira could be valuable member of Nerazzurri. Although he still need some adaption to Serie-A style, he has proved himself as powerful engine in left flank. His powerful drive has drawn 2.01 fouls per game from his opposition, the third higher below Cassano and Guarin. When he already polishes his final ball quality, then it is time for him to grab the first place. Quite worrying, Nagatomo-san ?

-Who expect Juan will get the first place so quickly ? After his first match versus Torino, he becomes the first choice in backline and has impressive 6 average rating. The Brazillian prodigy immediately becomes Giuseppe Meazza favourites with his uncompromise defending. If he can keep his performance for season long and so on, the future is bright for him

-Both Coutinho and Ricky has shown their talent, only the consistency and reliability leave a lot to desire. Each of them already shows what they are capable to. Coutinho’s agile dribbling has drawn almost 1 foul per game while Alvarez draws none. But, more composed Ricky has produced 1 assist while the Brazillian has 0.

-Quite frustrating season so far for Sneijder. As the highest paid member of the squad, everyone expects better game from him, but in fact he only has average rating of 5.5. And the most frustrating is how many he launches his long shot. He has the 5.96 shots per game, more than any Inter player. Especially against Siena, he shot 10 times, more than all the shots from every Inter starter combined. The positive side is, he has 2.98 shots on goal which implies he has decent 50 % long shot accuracy. But the negative side is, it proves he lacks patience to unlock the opponent defence.

-If Sneijder has worrying shooting stat, then hold your breath because the next is worst. Introducing, Fredy Alejandro Vasques Guarin ! He has average 3.93 shots per game (16 shots total). Still less than the Dutchman. But, would you look to his shot on goal ? Zero. Yes, it is neither typo nor mistake. Every single shot destines to fortunate Giuseppe Meazza spectators who get free ball as souvenir. And would you look to his foul stat ? He has commited 2.7 fouls per game, the highest in the squad. The second highest is Samuel with 2.67 fouls per game. The difference is, The Wall only has collected 1 booking while Guarin has collected nothing less than 4 which means 0.98 yellow card per game. What a disappointment to see such performance from the player who impressed the pundits at last season.

-Cambiasso proves his worth in team with 6.08 average rating, the fourth highest in team. Although his mobility has dropped a lot, he compensates it with great game understanding and flexibility. Against Torino, he played as centrehalf to give the balance to the team. Against La Viola, he produced Scholes-que volley which agonizingly grazed past crossbar and clever dummy to allow Cassano to score. But still, every Interisti misses his determination to protect every inch of Inter defence.

-With Cambiasso shifted to more attacking role, here comes Gargano to stabilize the team. His mobility and tenacity are valuable assets to team. So far, he has done 2.15 fouls per game and 1 yellow card so far (0.24 booking per game). Gargano proves himself as capable anchorman with such stat. As defensive midfielder, he must quickly stop the opposition counter attack before it does harm to the backline. He has done so many tactical fouls, yet only 1 card given. Good job, Gargano !

-What a disappointment by Milito ! He looks like out of depth in every performance and barely gives any presence whenever he plays. His performance against Torino saves his average rating to go any worse from 5.58. But, his performance against Siena and Fiorentian are unacceptable. Versus the former, it seemed Inter played without striker while against the latter, he squandered clear cut chance which could kill the game. It is only hypothesis, but probably Sneijder did so many desperate longshot because he can’t utilise El Principe in attack.

-Livaja shipped in 1 goal in his 66 minutes of appearance. But his capability to fill in Milito’s role is still questionable. And please forget his standing in the 2nd highest average rating as his playing time doesn’t give valid statistic judgement.

-Sneijder is frustrating, Milito is nowhere to be found, so how can Inter win the game ? The solution is Cassano. Just how lucky Inter to sign him. Second highest average rating just below Handanovic, 0.8 goal per game (which close to 1 goal in every game he plays), and the second highest fouled player below Guarin (Cassano drawn 2.61 while Guarin 2.7). What a player, what a stat. Well, just a slight concern for Stramaccioni, now he must find the solution to play without the talisman when somehow he is unable to play.

-So far, the best department is defence. Handa, Rano, and Juan give so much solidity in backline. Only, the number of yellow card must be reduced. Handanovic ridiculously received 1 booking, Ranocchia has already booked 4 times, Juan got 2 yellow cards.

Epilogue :

-The work is still far from perfect. The format isn’t tidy enough and I am still searching for pass completion and cross completion data. Anyone has the information ?

Why is the ranking not based on the rating?

I mean, why is Castellazzi 2nd on the list when he only has a 1.00 rating???

It looks like it's supposed to be sorted, but it doesn't seem like it's sorted...

ahh ic, I suggest you'd somehow weigh the rating by the number of minutes played though, or simply filter out players who've played less than a certain number of minutes.

Having Livaja up at the top there just hurts my eyes.

For October update, I want to ask to improve my blog :
1. Is it necessary to give out all those data and tables ? Or do you prefer the short summary of it ?
2. With current style (blue background and white font), do you read it comfortably ?

Officially endorsed by the StatMan himself!

Last year you didn't see to like that page so much, glad to see you're warming to it.

By the way the amount of stats they have is fantastic but they should add a couple more in defense they should add one like Key Mistakes for when a defender is dispossessed or makes a bad clearance or a bad pass that gift the opposing team a scoring chance.

In the passing statics they could something like the distance the passes have traveled, they could even put the distance passes have traveled in the forward direction that way it would be easier to see which players help your team bring the ball forward and which players only play safe passes. Also in the average passes per game they should use the number of successful passes not the attempted passes.

On the offensive front they should add the shots on target static because having the shots per game without an accuracy stat is not very useful.

Another thing they should do is divide the stat between the number of minutes played not the number of games. Let's look why, this is the way it's presented in whoscored.com:

W. Sneijder
Avg. Passes: 57.2
Pass Success: 86.4%
Key Passes: 2.8
Dribbles: 0.6

R. Alvarez
Avg. Passes: 27
Pass Success: 91.4%
Key Passes: 1.7
Dribbles: 1.3

How I think it should be:

W. Sneijder
Avg. Passes: 247/(360/90) = 61.75
Pass Success: 86.4%
Key Passes: 14/(360/90) = 3.5
Dribbles: 3/(360/90) = 0.75

R. Alvarez
Avg. Passes: 74/(101/90) = 65.9
Pass Success: 91.4%
Key Passes: 5/(101/90) = 4.5
Dribbles: 4/(101/90) = 3.6

1. About additional statistics
Yes I agree about it and I will add several important offensive and defensive statistics too. Some of your suggestion had been added and some hadn't because of lack of sources, blog limitation etc.

2. Average stat
I had already did precisely what you mentioned. Thanks.

By the way, whoscored.com doesn't give distance covered stat. Anyone know the reference for it ?

No man, I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about whoscored.com when I mentioned the stats that they could add. Anyways thanks for your hard work, if you did the average with the numbers of minutes played and not the number of games that's fantastic.
