tbh I don't know what to think about our current midfield crisis. Due to my current hormone therapy to become a hot tranny, my mood is fluctuating wildly like a woman and I differ from day to day.
On one hand, I'm fucken annoyed as fucken shit. The current situation is absolutely ridiculous and it's twice as infuriating because this happens to us just as we become a legitimate side under a winning coach.
On the other hand, this kind of injury crisis is pretty unprecedented territory. Realistically, teams can not prepare for this level of absences, especially in one department. It reminds me of our defensive crisis in 2007/08. If I remember correctly, at one point we had Cordoba, Samuel, Chivu, Materazzi and Burdisso all simultaneously out with long-term injuries. (Thus, the infamous Cambiasso - Rivas CB partnership.) When we went into that season with that enviable defence, no one in the world would've imagined we'd be playing our 6th and 7th choice CB's.
Our current situation is not as bad, nor as forgivable, as 2008. But in principle it's not too dissimilar. Luck really is an underrated factor in football, and this season, we've had some spastic bad luck on our side.
Still though, we needed at least one more midfielder who would've ideally competed with Sensi, Brozovic and Barella for a starting spot, or at the least, relegated Vecino and Gagliardini further down the pecking order. Some would argue we already had that midfielder in Nainggolan. But let's not go there again.
We have 4 games remaining until the January break. Even considering our injuries, I expect 3 wins out of 3 in the league. We have the home ground advantage against Roma. Fiorentina are a fucking mess. And Genoa are shit. Of course, I will be understanding of any slip ups in such circumstances but I expect 9 points. The 'finish line' is in sight.
