Until we’re -8 from Juve, I expect us to continue getting dicked with ref designations and decisions.

Wana bet that they'll assign Rocchi to either Fiorentina or Atalanta?

The infamous front page:

Bulgarian newspaper from a couple of years back - "The new in CSKA: An Italian, a Sweden and two blacks". The чернилки word is quite untranslatable but it's a clear slur, worse than just "blacks", it has a strong negative connotation.

Afrika-likuva-645x382.jpg

"Africa rejoice" after the French NT won the World Cup...

So yeah, again, at this point I'm probably going to just fortify people's outlook on Bulgaria that it's a rotten racist country but it's mainly the face of old white dudes that are working in sports journalism, the dumb fucks. This goes for Bulgaria, I suppose it goes for Italy as well. Sports journalists are generally despised here, we all know they are inadequate senile idiots that work for peanuts and just can't do any better to sell their toilet editions.

I dont get why everything is considered racist. People are thinking about it too much, and they cry whenever someone calls a black skinned person, black. In whatever contest.

Journalist: "Two ex-Manchester Utd. players playing this Friday, they're both black........ heeey, it's also Black Friday.... Killer fucking headline"

I bet you this was the thinking. I'm the first to shit on social justice warriors as I hate that cry-wolf behaviour more than anything else, playing the victim card, but that's just bad taste bro. Especially considering the current climate in Calcio in regards to players of colour.

So we should never call black people, black ? Is calling Kobe Black Mamba racist when its called by Italian journalists ? I really dont get it why are people being offended when they call them by their skin color, and its not insulting, calling ppl monkey because they are black is insulting, but calling them only black, I mean, its dumb.

People in my country tend to call people by their skin(when someone is darker or lighter), or hair color, and no one in the history of my country was ever insulted by that.

Well, in Bulgaria black people are referred to as "негър/негри" (negri, pl.; negar, sg.) which is, well, quite similar to the N word... to put it mildly. There's no ill intent here, I guarantee you that, negro is black, so we use the word for black when referring to black people, but I'm smart enough to understand that using it I might offend people that don't know how Bulgarian lexicology works.

That's all fine and well, it's not so much of a problem because they are being referred to as "black" players, which they are.

The problem is focusing on the fact that they are black above anything else. What does THAT have to do with fucking anything?! That's the epitome of fucking racism - focusing on skin colour when it has nothing to do with anything. Talk about MU, talk about an attacker and a defender, talk about a rivalry or something... but nah, we're talking about the blackness of the two players.

The headline isn't necessarily racist, but it's silly and unnecessary and, given the problems with racism that have occurred in Italy this year and in recent years, it's hard to give the benefit of the doubt. It's just throwing more wood in the fire for absolutely no reason.

Well that's one of the things connecting the two players, if they are personally not offended, than you, and I here are discussing meaningless subjects.

That's the thing that bothers me the most, its even worse than focusing on their skin color above else.

People are promoting anti-racism, in every chance they get, and someone is making money out of it, in our case its FIF that's getting more clicks and stuff, just because we are debating something that's most probably irrelevant to the players themselves.

But they are intentionally provoking stuff like this, because people will get into heated debate about it more than anything else. We just need to lose interest in fighting for someone elses rights, if they dont care, and thats it, no more headlines like this.

Well, in Bulgaria black people are referred to as "негър/негри" (negri, pl.; negar, sg.) which is, well, quite similar to the N word... to put it mildly.

The...n word is just a Dixie mispronunciation of the Spanish word for black. I mean historical context aside, it's quite ridiculous to ask people to stop using a very popular word in the Indo-European language group. Sure, don't use it in English, but let's not assume that the whole world has to stop using words in their own language because the Americans don't like them. We have enough Americanisms as it is. The reason the word exists in American English, with a very negative connotation now, by the way is because the whole historical context begins with the Spanish and Portuguese who introduced this to the British colonials...

As for Italy, you may even be surprised by their lack of filter when it comes to racial sensitivities. Most of Europe is like that but it's more evident the further east and south you go.

The irony of the CDS front page is that right under BLACK FRIDAY they have a whole paragraph of how these two are anti-racism poster boys in an attempt to save face from their controversial headline :D

The way you wrote this makes it look as if you were dying to say the word but somehow managed to resist.

It's just a word. If I wanted to say it, I would. I just find it silly and funny at the same time that people pretend to use this word in some sort of respective camouflage of avoiding to actually use the word. Like "the F word" or "the S word" so that kids don't listen to it. In fact, I find this usage quite disrespectful when people when it happens instead of actually using the word. So in the end, say neither or just use the actual word when your intent is not to racially abuse someone.
But I guess it's only acceptable when comedians say the word in the same context and you nod along in agreement but everyone else who follows suit must be an non-conforming racist sob. Selective grammar nazism at its best :)

Or maybe you're just biased.

They are all the same. The name of the ref does not matter. They all follow the same instructions.

I don't think there's anything malicious in the CdS headline... but it's idiotic and symbolic of how most Italians are oblivious to issues regarding race, which is the point I think some people here are trying to make. It's just in bad taste and not something that needs to be said. Also, black Friday was last week and is associated with discounts not skin colour (which I guess could apply to Smalling but certainly not Lukaku)... if you're going to try and be bold and witty at least get the context right.

I think this is gonna be a tough match, but I'm expecting a win. Our midfield is in crisis mode and that's our weakness without question right now. We have a tough schedule ahead and won't be able to re-staff for a little bit still. We have to grind out some results in this part of the season and hope we can get and stay healthy during the final push around March.

Anyway, back to the game:

GdS predicts D'Ambrosio starting as RCB. Lazaro & Biraghi on the flanks. No surprises elsewhere.

As far as I'm concerned, D'Ambrosio was the worst on the pitch against SPAL (or thereabouts). While I'm glad he's back from injury, I'm far less enthused that he's seemingly taken Bastoni's minutes recently. When Conte wants to rest one of our three starting CB's, I want the first choice backup to be Bastoni, not D'Ambrosio. I think he's earned it too.

I suspect Conte is preferring D'Ambrosio, a natural RB, as the wide CB in order to deal with Roma's wingers.

I'm fine with either Lazaro or Candreva starting. Biraghi needs to get his shit together.

Even with our absences I'm not so much dreading this game as I am eagerly excited for it. I'm predicting 3-2 to us. Goals from Brozovic, Lukaku and Vecino. Double for Zaniolo, obviously.

.

As Brehme correctly mentioned, the word "негр" which is same in Bulgarian and Russian is just a modification of Spanish or Portuguese words. When I say "негр" in Russian I don't apply any negative connotation to the word too, it is simply used when I speak about members or descendants of a Negroid (Congoid) race from Sub-Saharan Africa. In fact, there are no any negative slurs towards blacks in Russian culture, the word "черно**пые" would probably describe people from Caucasus region in an extremely negative way(Chechnya, Dagestan, etc.) rather than Africans. Same in Kazakh or any other Turkic languages as our nomadic ancestors simply have never encountered Africans so there weren't even specific words to describe them, only adopted ones.

I would gladly continue to use the word "негр" in future if I am not in the English-speaking environment. English-speaking people or people deeply immersed into American culture wouldn't understand me and consider me racist which is obviously not the case.
