i feel extremely dissapointed. after that phenomenal failure against Lazio in 2002, this final hurts alot. we could have done better because we are the better team with more technical players. i think Conte gave too much respect on Sevilla by letting them taking more intiatives in play. Conte should have come up with more aggresive approach in 2nd half. Eriksen, Sanchez, and Candreva would boost our attacking threat more significantly. Biraghi also is a more suitable option tonight as a starter.

a regretable match.

i actually thought this would feel bad and that i'd be depressed for like 5 days, but I kinda don't feel anything. I guess thats what Inter does to you, after you watch them suck for 10 years. The early 00's also sucked, but then I was too young to really care. I just want us to resolve the Conte thing, get rid of shit players, bring good players and get on with the new season. Forza!

They tactically outclassed Man Utd, it was ridiculous to watch even. They did lose a couple of big chances, but that's football. Sevilla was always looking as they could control the tempo during the game.

Against us, we just seemed happy to let them have the ball, they didn't outplay us. We just had a dysfunctional midfield where our 3 center backs had better ball control than the five of them. And all we did was go for long balls which weren't really good.
you must have watched a different game then. they were lucky not to be 4 goals down going into the last half an hour. They play that same game 10 times they lose no fewer than 8 of it. Looks like they got lucky in the final again. Not a very pleasant team to play against and it's not because of their oodles of tactical acumen and footballing ability.

1. Clear red as a last man challenge from behind to deny a clear goal scoring chance

2. Handballs have been given for much, much less (Depay) and he did motion his wrist towards the ball, however involuntary, however small

3. How many chances did Sevilla create? Literally all their goals came from crosses into the box that we just did an uncharacteristically shit job of handling. It's not like they tore us apart through the middle with sublime tiki taka and magic football. We didn't create much, no doubt, but saying we created one chance is obviously a joke. Sanchez and Moses had chances but both fluffed their shots completely. Gagliardini had a big chance which he inexplicably tried to place to the right, despite two defenders sliding in from that direction and the left being open. D'Ambrosio had at least 2 very good chances. Martinez had a chance but decided to dive instead of shooting. Godin obviously took his.

I get that you probably don't like all the whining, but don't take these ludicrous views just to argue against it. Sure, we didn't deserve to win and obviously there's going to be whining and ranting following cup final loss, but some of stuff is just plain false.

There is this thing called a double punishment. And UEFA has a rule which states there shouldn't be one. That applies to the penalty. Unless the challenge was so bad on top of being a foul, it should be a penalty (with yellow), and not a red. I have seen that being applied fairly consistently.

The penalty on the handball is debatable. I agree that lesser ones have been given, and probably this should also be, but it wasn't clear as day. Also I would consider it extremely soft and probably unfair were it against Inter. That's my stand, and I'm applying it here irrespective of it being for or against Inter.

Sevilla may not create many clear cut chances, but they had a siege around our box. They were clearly the better side throughout. At any point in the match, if you ask a neutral who is more likely to score, they would have said Sevilla. Banega had a free run on the ball, Navas was getting into a good position at will. Inter struggled to put 2 passes together.

Whining is terrible, and the disappointment over the loss is completely understood. But the bigger picture is being missed in that. They were tactically superior, and that was for all the 90 minutes. Even their subs were on point. The period between 81 to 90 minutes was a fucking masterclass by them, that's what champions do.

At no point in this season, no matter who the opposition was, we haven't been able to stifle and shut down the opposition like that.

We had the wrong lineup. The euphoria of the past results got us carried away. But it was clear that you can't do much when you have 8 defensive players in the lineup, and with Gags in MF and D'Ambrosio at RWB. There was a time when Sevilla were dead and tired, and that's the only time when Inter had a spell of possession. But all of that was recycled in our own half. That was the time to make changes and bring on Moses and Eriksen, but we all saw what happened. Mentally we just weren't there. All those needless fouls also show that.

We got some decisions against us. We can whine about them. Or let's accept that we did not deserve it. And fortunately it came in a tournament that we don't really care about. The biggest loss is showing to the world the kind of an embarrassment Inter, and more importantly, Conte is.

They are giving medals to the runners-up in the EL?

I turned off the tv once the ref ended the game, didn't want to watch the pathetic ceremony when they are "rewarding" us for being second.

The way it looked before the own goal, it looked to me that Conte was happy with it going to extra time, and was saving the subs until then.

Exactly. And that's exactly why we lost. Didn't expect that kind of cowardice from Conte.

I agree in general with your post but let's not blow it out of proportion. This was far from an embarrassment, we were the best Italian team in Europe this year, we were physically fit for four tough EL games and lost the final fair and square, but it was far from a "the whole world saw that Inter is an embarrassment" when rube, Atalanta, Roma and Napoli were dead on their feet in their first games in Europe (post-covid) while we were the only ones being serious and looked like a functioning team. Hell even our final performance can be taken more seriously than some of the shitshows we saw in Europe this summer.

What do you say about rube, City and Barca for their games this summer? You have to invent new terms for them if we were so embarrassing.

I understand all the conte hate
But did he tell lukaku to use his best first touch of the season on our own goal?
Did he make the best defense in italy losing header against de jong twice?
(we didnt concede because the 3atb, it was a fuckin set piece, 3 CB suppose to be better dealing with that)
we shat our pants, overthinking and scared, heck the last ten minutes we couldnt even bring the ball properly (and thats with the like of eriksen, sanchez and moses like all FIF suggested)

what he could do better: adjust the formation after the lukaku goal, tighten the defense, punish them on counter like when we were playing leverkusen/shaktar (instead we play sloppily and got caught by their pace several times, and yes Dumbo should be booked)
conte thought it would go into extra time, and he's okay with that because sevilla looked tired as hell (and we do have 1-2 clear chances) until gags and lukaku decided to brainfart

again its not about 3 atb/4atb all the goals came from set pieces

We started so well, with that amazing run from Lukaku that leaded to a penalty for Inter. But then we already failled, by giving De Jong to much space. The second one was amazing, and the third was again something you can't concede in a final, even if it's the EL final, that's ridicilous....

We could talk about a possibile red card for Carlos Alberto at the penalty, or generelly a really disgusting Sevilla who dived every three seconds... but what Inter made was simply not enough. They simply know how to play a European match. While Inter is still the same team who would draw 1-1 against PSV. Maybe because of Conte, maybe because of the lack of experience in Europe games.. but everyone, Conte included, was terrible.
