Javier Zanetti,
I just realised we don't have a thread for international retirements

recent retirements include:
Roberto Carlos
Juninho Pernambucano
Hidetoshi Nakata
Phillip Cocu

folks please post all other international retirements when they are announced.

I'm also pretty sure:

Cafu
Figo (after the WC)
Zidane (after the WC)
Cannavaro (after the WC)

Cannavaro is what now 35? I highly doubt he'll keep playing after this WC. I hope Totti stays though until at least Euro 08 :(

Hamed, has Cannavaro not had a great 2 seasons with Juve? I think we just don't acknowledge his performances at Juventus because there's a hatred for him amongst us, but it's hard to deny that he's arguably the best CB in Italy or the world.

I guess that is the Italian NT up there with Inter thing, and I respect that.

However, he has allegedly forced us to sell him to Juve and I am convinced that he took drugs and the way Juve play, made him look good. Like I said numerous time, I don't have a smoking gun but just theories.

But he is one my runaway leaders for WC MVP's, he is simply stunning!

lol yeah when it's WC season all of my rivalry and hatred for Juve and Milan players vanish. Right now I love Cannavaro, hell I'd wear a Juve jersey with Cannavaro on the back simply because it represents the captain of my NT (and rightly so, he's a rock).

But this is normal for all fans of NT who support a club that is in the league of that country. It's just a little scary in Italy with all the scandals and huge tempered rivalries etc.

Cannavaro is 32, I atleast see another Euro in him.
And about Nakata, reports are saying that he is just tired from football. Sad though, he is one of Asia's best player. I dont know how his season on loan at Bolton went/ Poor guy, I just feel that he was better than what he showedto the world

he should never have moved to the EPL, the EPL will ruin magical players like nakata.

I'm certainly going to miss RC6, I think he had a decent WC this year and proved he still has the most dangerous left on Earth. We'll all remember the free kicks he's scored over the years in the yellow jersey...I think 2003-on with Madrid ruined him, though.

LOL, the last one I remembered was he scored against China. The goalie was basically useless.

R.Carlos, definitely the most over-rated free-kick taker in history. 45% hits the wall, 45% goes to row Z, 5% saved, 5% scored.

He still scored the best free-kick ever though.

Spot on – I’m sure a proper RM would have some statistics on that. The guy scores a goal every 3 years and people talk about him as being a great free kick taker. There are probably over 100 better free kick taker out there right now.
To me him taking free kicks is a total waste of a golden opportunity to score. Sure, let him take 1 or 2 per season so he doesn’t cry over it – especially when the ball is more nearer to the halfway line than the penalty box.
