9 months ago Italy was the new superpower in football. Now they're in a crisis.

The answer is simple: Their attack just sucks, but the rest of their team is good. It was over reliant on Chiesa.

I agree. I would also add Spinazzola to the players who had a huge influence in their attack. Without him there's basically no threat from the full backs. Without those two their attack seems toothless and out of ideas.

I am not sure if I have this right, but in the early 90s, Italian football allowed clubs to have five foreigners on their books and only three on the field at the same time.

I think the ship has sailed re: foreigners at Italian clubs. If they were to attempt to go wind that back, many clubs, including Inter would find it very difficult (if it were permitted by law).

I think the best way to do it is to introduce a rule that requires clubs to have four players promoted from the youth team as senior squad members, for example, a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder and a striker.

When you think about it, we have the likes of Kolorov, Ranocchia, Vecino, Vidal and fucking Caicedo occupying valuable squad spots because they are "experienced". but the honest truth of the matter is that they offer 5/8's of fuck all when it comes to contributing on the field. Why can't those spots be occupied by young Italian players?

The problem with Italy is not lack of Chiesa or Spinazzola. Chiesa sucked in most of his appearances for Italy, he was brilliant in knockout stage, but apart that nothing special. I'm not saying Berardi is better than him, but Italy was able to play great matches without Chiesa just few months ago.
Italy was amazing in qualification to Euro tournament. They've scored a lot of goals and played sexy football. Mancini has been switching tactics and formation and gave chance to a lot of players. He picked the players in the best form.
Now he decided to play with players who are disappointing recently. Insgine sucks in this season. Immobile struggles in National Team for months. Barella is tired. Currently the best Italian offensive player is Zaccagni, he is playing great for Lazio since few months. And Mancini left him on the stands. Tonali is also playing better than Barella and Raspadori or Joao Pedro should play instead of Immobile.
There should be also place for Lorenzo Pellegrini in the starting line-up.
Mancini should really be more open-minded like he was at the beginning of his journey with Italy and start rotating the players and pick the best ones, not only these who won Euro.

This is the answer I'm leaning towards, along with the Spina injury. I don't think people realize how insane his form was. Mancini's system was perfect for a player that dynamic.

Chiesa was there for all the failures vs Bulgaria, Northern Ireland and 2x swiz.

Chiesa is not a superstar. Even at club level his scoring record is decent at best.

4 goals in 37 international games is insanely good?

He had a good euro's but he has not been consistently good.

Would be illegal to try and limit foreign players. EU labour laws come into play, that is the reason those limits disappeared.

There are already rules regarding homegrown players in the squads.

There are 2 issues why Italian youngsters aren't used:

1.Culture/mentality: Italian coaches prefer experience. Has been the case since I started following serie a in the 1990's and hasn't changed a bit.
2.Costs. if I am a Inter director why should I pay €40 million for scamacca, ect when I can get a similar or better player from the French market for a cheaper price? Italian clubs over price their youngsters by some margin.

The lifting of those limits ruined football.

And the EU law is bullshit. It does not apply to any other sport unless the federation wants to implement it. It only applies to cross-continental tournaments, like the Champions League or the Euroleague etc.

UEFA forcing the EU based federations to have this in place is quite illegal, but no one cares because it's big business.

I dnt think italians overprice their youngsters.. at least not like England does or even Spain
At least spain players are good
I wont even speak about England lol

The problem is that italians boo their youngsters when they dont show up .. and thats just a big blow for their morale
The case with Donnaruma its just crazy,.

I logged in to ask this one single question.

Where are Blunine and Toninu? I have been trying to search for their comment after this game happened, but can't find any.

Do you guys need some tissues? I heard there may be low supply depending on wherever you are located.

Also, a more serious question: what should your boss Manshitni do next?

Thanks.

The fact that England and Spain are even worse at overpricing their youngsters doesn't mean italian clubs aren't guilty of it.

Also English clubs and the Spanish big two can afford those prices. Italian clubs can't.

Donnaruma got everything he deserved. Why wouldn't milan fans boo him.

Ideally because they’re Italian before they’re Milan fans, but I don’t expect them to have that level of reasoning.

Anyway, Bastoni and Barella are definitely going to play another 90 minutes on Tuesday*. Just fake an injury you dicks.

I hope Italia win the Euro again to bring back confidence to Italia, the team needs a total overhaul, introduction of players like Raspadori, Scamacca, Sottil, Frattessi, Tonali etc...

Vs Turkey:

Italy: Donnarumma; De Sciglio, Acerbi, Chiellini, Biraghi; Tonali, Cristante, Pessina; Zaniolo, Scamacca, Raspadori

So freaking obvious Scamacca Raspa will score tonight. The WC is cursed for this team.
